Or a dreamcast. Or a PS3 (maybe?)

But how many games would support them?

When I want quality entertainment I turn off the TV and head to the computer. >.>

But I have a thing against controllers. I'm sure that if some console came with a mouse and keyboard, I'd at least try to enjoy them somewhat. Then there's the thing I like to multi-task. Whenever I'm playing a game, I'm also chatting on messengers, I pause to go look at some websites, and things like that.

Exacly the reason why I always change the games I play into windowed mode.

Console games just don't provide enough stimulus for me to spend ALL of my focus on playing them. Yeah, I watch movies, TV-series and listen to music plus surf the web, chat with people and other stuff while playing Call of Duty (also, hello mouse accuracy).

Some of the games are actually so easy I can have long discussions with other people while mid-combat. With live people it's doable in any situation so in this case I mean tabbing to the software in question, like messenger.

Oh yeah, and I'm an "IT-guy". I do not need the simplicity of getting console games to work (when comparing to PC).

Agreed, we need more good quality controllers for the PC :P

360 controller works on a PC and is great.  Mouse and keyboard is cool for some things but try playing something like Devil May Cry without a controller.

Yeah, I only got so-so use out of my Logitech controller. Then I got DMC 4.....and was like "Oh my god, I am such a smart person for buying this."

Which is why I almost punched myself in the face with rage when Dead Rising 2 wouldn't recognize anything but a 360 controller.

I don't know I prefer total emersion

It doesn't happen very often but sometimes I can get so absorbed into videogames that I can remember some scenes as if I wasn't even playing them.

A real PC-gamer buys the console, buys the console game....and plays it on PC with an emulator. If no such emulator exists, he makes one. If the game is too...tame, he mods some gore effects in.

Pppfft, I'm not buying some backwards compatible, soon-to-be-obsolete Nintendo product, just so I can play an 8-bit game that came out 20 years ago. You can make the argument as the games get newer, the reasons for paying increase. I can make the argument in the opposite direction.

And seriously, Neo Geo? Jaguar? Who even owns the rights to that now, let alone provides a venue for you to buy and play games on it?

I did, on the pc. Cannot get even close on doing the combos with a controller on the ps2.

Might be just me, but the controller does nothing better for me. I even play driving games better on the keyboard. The only exception would be an actual wheel for driving games (which I have) and a joy stick for flying sims.

I found not needing extra fingers for the keys left my hands free to do the combo stuff on the shoulder buttons.

I even play driving games better on the keyboard.
The only games that I don't play better on the keyboard are driving games and football.  The former is very useful to make slight turns, and the latter is very useful to carefully adjust running angles (also, the huge number of buttons for juke/straightarm left/right, jump, sprint, dive, etc etc etc are more accessible while you are already running).

If that were true, the PC98 system would have been the dominate gaming system since its inception... or at least second best.

Fair warning: There's a lot of porn games for consoles. Thanks to stuff like the Wii, Move, and Kinect, they're starting to create, uh, interesting controllers for playing them. Porn don't seem to have much effect on th'longevity (at least commercially) of a gaming system. Which is kinda' strange, considering how much influence it's got on every bloody thing else.

PC gaming will never die because, yanno', consoles are more or less just specialized, somewhat gimped, computers. Give it another few decades or thereabouts and the difference between PC and console will be entirely nominal :P
