constant thrust = constant velocity.

I think you mean constant thrust = constant acceleration in space. =p Which is one of those things I've always found lacking with space sims. There are just so many things you can do in zero gravity environments that you couldn't do in gravity ones. Like, say, accelerate in a given direction, accelerate in another and spin around your target like he's an utter bitch. I think you'd need a seriously weird control system in order to do it, though (you'd need buttons for up/down, left/right and forward / back and they'd have to be easily reachable).
If I may direct you to Allegiance, you can stop complaining.

That's what I was referring to actually.  In TIE Fighter, the laws of physics are broken such that if you cut your engines, you slow to a stop, and if you keep your engines on at full power, you stay at max speed.

Now, for controls like you're after, there's always Descent...of course it still doesn't obey physics, but w/e.

PCs and consoles are both great, for different reasons.  The problem is that lately they've been porting all of the drawbacks from one system to the other.  Sold separately external hard drives on consoles, matchmaking on PCs, buggy-ass "we'll just patch it later" games on consoles, console controls on PCs, etc.

Neither of them are dead though.  There's still plenty of quality new games being developed for each.  Valve lurve PC, Crytek's games would kick a 360's ass, and so on.

I swear he's doing it on purpose now.

Nobody except consoletards thinks pc gaming is dead and you won't find them here. Especially not with steam being one of the biggest moneymakers like... ever

In a way, computer gaming is turning into console gaming. The balooning expansion of steam over recent times, incorporating a huge number of games into its interface, as well as facebook with its super-casual games, are both working to put a lot of gamers under their direct distributor-ship. And from uniform supply comes uniform demand, so maybe...

Ah, nevermind. Let's just hope that indie gaming will stop trying to be art.

OH MY GOD TRIBES 2 REMAKE
Link please? (Firefall doesn't really count because it's not a remake, silly, it just happens to have some guys who made Tribes 2 working on it.)

That Xenonauts game (which was mentioned a few times when the Xcom FPS was announced) is one of the games I'm looking forward to. They recently updated their website and have a video of some ingame interface.
I heard Jagged Alliance 2 will be realtime, sort of. I hope there's an option for a more 'traditional' turn-based as well.
Jagged Alliance 3 would be cool, if instead of measuring in squares they measured in meters/feet (more precision). Though I don't know much about it really. Hopefully it'll be turn based.

And, of course, Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad is going to be bitchin'

EDIT: How come nobody realizes a controller can be plugged into your computer? So, you can probably play those 'consoly' PC games on the computer, however, I've never heard of being able to do anything like with with the mouse for consoles. This is how I played Psychonauts on the PC, after all.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS LOVABLE! THIS SO MANY TIMES!

I got tired of the whole "cinematic"/"art" gaming trend the moment FFVII came out. Thing is? It's only gotten worse. These days, some games are more cutscene than gameplay.

My pleasure to please.

This is really why I like DF. It's highly ambitious, has an unusual degree of realism, and gives no shit about trying to dictate a tone or a storyline, leaving the players to find their own sense of things, and their own stories within the game's vast possibilities (limited basically only by its unfinished-ness and its fantasy setting).

You do know that Crysis 2 is being developed for consoles right?

Agreed. It gets even worse when the game's message seems about as deep as Paris Hilton's personality and yet it still gets praised for it.

yea but they are tweaking the engine to reduce to the massive system needs a console can't handle (well the ps3 should be able to handle it).

Which is my point.  They're lowering the technical quality of it so the consoles can handle it with their ancient hardware and 512 megs of RAM.

Same thing they did with Oblivion.
