early game problems
« on: December 13, 2010, 05:03:41 pm »

So, i have a problem with this game. i really enjoy it, Ive played probably 25 hours on it. but whenever i get to around the two year mark in-game, i stop getting migrants and trade caravans. any ideas why that might be happening?

Well, migrants could be because you don't have enough wealth to attract them, but the caravans should come no matter what...  :o

Is it just Dwarf caravans that have stopped coming? If so, I would think that your civilization might have been wiped out during a war or something similar. Just a guess, but you might want to check Legends.

If nothing changed since I got a dead dwarven civilization you should see it on the (C)ivlization menu, if your dwarven civ is missing leaders it is dead.

i'll check legends, but i dont think thats it since i get occasional elven caravans, but how much use are those really? i end up with a few pretty good axedwarves from chopping up the elves, but that doesnt get me more migrants. would using a reveal hack or a liquids hack mess things up?

Your Dwarf civilization is probably dead.

make sure you have a trade depot too. Quite often I will go for several seasons in a row without recieving any migrants, you know you are a DF veteran when migrant waves arouse dread and despair instead of eager enthusiasm

i use reveal and mine out lots of gems
Did you save after using reveal, or do you use reveal, exit out, then mine and save? Reveal has been known to do weird things when saved; I can't think of why it would cause something like this, but it's not out of the question.
