Army Arc
« on: December 13, 2010, 04:47:55 pm »

So I've been hearing that the army arc is the next general direction after economy. But I don't really understand what exactly that entails. What are the planned/official things that the army arc consists of? How will it affect adventure mode, dwarf mode, and worldgen specifically?

He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.

I think that, foremost, this means armies actually moving around the map, which will probably work similarly to the caravans.  Eventually this will include the ability to direct armies to attack certain settlements and to directly control an attack (much like in adventure mode or the current squad controls).

The old dev next page still exists, although the style is screwed up so you will need to remove default style: http://bay12games.com/dwarves/dev_next.html

The new dev page has some stuff on army/military improvements at the bottom: http://bay12games.com/dwarves/dev.html

Toady could start to green some of these things out, as modders are able to do them, even if there not in vanilla.

*also reads some devnotes*

Train surrounding dwarves has me really excited for some reason! Maybe it's just the thought of sending out veterans to rally the dwarven civilization to attack the goblins of the north or something like that. It conjures images of Dunharrow from Return of the King! :D

In those cases it generally means he wants to implement them to a much better extent than modders currently can.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
