Cavern zombie critters spread miasma, kill FPS.

Breached caverns, went from 120 to 40, because there is a dozen of rotting assholes. //I assume its because of miasma since I never had a drop so huge and I never played on evil map in 31

Even if I kill them, more will come to the map. And since they are undead, their population is infinite.
I can think of 2 solutions:
-wait for normal animal to come and trap it (not in cage) //going to be annoying and difficult, all while having low framerate
-permanently close my caverns by walling the edges //cannot be undone

Anyone have better suggestions?

3) Send out your military to kill the current residents, kill them, and dispose of the pieces.

Actually it is possible to completely wall of the caverns. See bridges create walls when raised, and if it hasn't been changed yet your able to build them right up against the edge of the map. Build a bunch of bridges and raise them. Poof, insta walls.

That won't solve the actual problem though. Walling off the caverns won't make its inhabitants disappear.

Kill the remaining critters, dump their bodies outside. Then with your bridgewalls right on the edge of the embark you'll be fine.

used to be infinite in 40d
But all right, gotta kill em all.

Actually it is possible to completely wall of the caverns. See bridges create walls when raised, and if it hasn't been changed yet your able to build them right up against the edge of the map. Build a bunch of bridges and raise them. Poof, insta walls.
And reversible. I thought about water+magma, your idea is much better.

Just hope that some tantruming dwarf doesn't decide to open them all up flooding your fotress with undead from below and goblins from above (sounds more awesome when a double siege occurs) and your last dwarfs mount their defence in the booze room when a random fireball strikes 25000units of booze.

Technically shouldn't zombies eventually become skeletons?

Give cats natural metallic armor and throw them in your danger room.  Also allow their mouth and tail to grasp (shield in mouth, weapon in tail xD)  Have a cat based military.  You know, do the same with all tame animals xD send in the cats as shock troops to disrupt the archers

One would think that they would, but if it even happens it will take an incredibly long time. I've never seen a case of it.

do zombies and [EVIL] exclusive creature still mutually exclusive? Should that be the case, you can keep reembarking until you spawn somewhere without zombies. Alternatively add [CANNOT_UNDEAD] to all underground creatures to prevent them from being zombies to begin with.

I hate zombies. They're boringly weak, and killing them yields no materials.


What really killed my FPS recently was a single CRAZY ghost. I think he was flying in vertical figure 8's. I finally got a slab for him since I couldn't locate his body.

No, not if the creatures already "exist" in the fortress.
