Human phisics are messed up
« on: December 12, 2010, 04:35:10 pm »

I was playing as a human and, seeing as there were no dead mega-beasts in the world, went out to do something that no-one has ever done before! (Guess what it is)

Well, there were no shrines in the area and I had no followers so I went to kill a bandit to keep the Bogey-men away. Only that when I walked up to the villian, this strange thing happened...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Any idea how this happened?

If a sword is wide enough, a stab from the sword could possibly sever a hand.

I think it's all based on contact area.  Sword stabs have a contact area of 50 (vs. 20 for spears and 5 for daggers), which means that they can sever relatively small body parts, unlike spears.

I've stabbed quite a few hands off of bogeymen by using spears, since they're so small.

I've stabbed off lots of limbs via spear & pike. I think it's a matter of strength and proficiency / figher skill.

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

Hacking off hands and feet with a sword stab is relatively common.

Think something was kinda odd...

No, you're just cursed (with awesome).  I couldn't find a good clip on YouTube, so the Annoying Arrows entry here will have to suffice.

sadly this was me learning to shoot bows, the adventurer resposible killed like 4 bandits, shot one's dick off before bleeding to death from an arrow in the heart...

I like to think of it as the body part being run through with such force it is literally ripped off and remains stuck on the sword/spear.

 ???
That picture in my head seems about as logical as this.

Instead, (at least for arrows), I'd say the arrows are going super-sonic and severe cavitation severs the head/arm.
Spears? Haven't seen many amputations with those, and I don't know if I could explain them doing so. perhaps a prolonged grappling/ripping session?

I could see that work at the wrist yeah. But peep's arms don't get ripped off in an instantaneous yank unless you get a solid grip on the bits being removed. A spear would just go through, or glance off the bone. Even if it got caught, you'd just move his arm around until you negated it's freedom of movement.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
