Ashley isn't one dimensional! She has the "Attraction to Shep" axis and the "Spaceracist" axis!

Miranda: No, it... really doesn't. It doesn't make the revelation interesting, it makes it... meh.

Vega: Spanglish is always annoying, mostly because it never sounds good when you throw random words from one language into a sentence constructed in another language. It mystifies me that anyone still does it. It just sounds bad, no matter the reason.

Jack: Maybe, but the sheer level of Gameplay/Story/Cutscene segregation you see just makes it seem silly. It's mildly absurd that she's all GRR BEST BIOTIC EVER and then you get her and she's like level 2 and can barely put enough points in Shockwave to properly go Bowling for Husks.

I'm curious about the depth of characters comments. What would have made them interesting? How would that fit into the story?

I wasn't terribly impressed with the game as a whole. It all felt really unpolished, with constant graphical issues and glitches. Lots of fetch quests (and scanning planets is even worse than me2) and various plot and writing problems. The whole war readiness track was a really wierd choice because it just seems badly implimented to me. I've been told that if you played a renegade shepard you would end up with significantly less readiness than a paragon. I guess thats a problem with assaigning a numerical value to every choice in the game?

One of my major complaints is that they still don't let you choose your options from past games when not importing a save, which kinda makes it feel like there's a canon Shepard (and he's kind of a bastard apparently). And ME2 was basically ignored for the most part. With no imported chacter I think the only things carried over are Miranda, Jacob and the Illusive man.

As for soldier talk: crack a load of points into inferno ammo, grab a decent assault rifle, and walk through everything. :P

Not true. I beat it on Paragon and Renegade, though perhaps having the bonus content tipped the scales a bit. One thing I also noticed is that you gain Renegade much easier than Paragon.

There are many ways that they could have been better, but how is the writers' jobs, not the players.
I certainly liked all of the nonhuman characters better than the human characters, as if they had been written by different people. Even my least favourite alien (Samara, personally) was better than my favourite human. I feel like maybe the writers had to make there be one specific thing about every human character to make them less human and it ended up just making them annoying. All of the male aliens are absolute bro-tier, while kaiden is pissy tier, Jacob is kind of bro-tier and Vega is 'thinks-I'm-his-bro-but-I-really-just-wish-he'd-stop-throwing-spanish-words-around-tier'

I liked Jack... Shockwave was best power. She's also the only character who's romance had depth AFAIK.

@Fenrif: I understand where you're coming from, but I'll still take Reaper-dodging over hours of endlessly scanning planets for like 1000 Platinum so I can get that shotgun upgrade for my Vanguard. :\ I agree with you that it should have been just 'ping planet, check planet, receive loot' rather than 'ping planet, check planet, scan planet, receive loot.' The less steps - especially when one is just redundant; I mean, you already know the item is there, it's just a matter of spinning a globe around until you 'find' it - the better.

I have a stupid idea about that, but I can't do it myself since I have no way of transferring video from my TV or 360 to the computer, but I wonder if anyone thought of locating all the resources in each galaxy without actually grabbing them and then posting screenshots of where they all are so you don't have to hunt around as much.

@Everyone complaining about James: It is a bit annoying, and Freddy Prinze Jr. doesn't sound like he should be throwing those words into casual conversation. Eddie Guerrero could get away with it, but only because he had the right accent and charisma to pull it off, make it seem natural. Vega is a likeable character but he sounds too, eh, New Yorkish to be saying stuff like 'pendejo' on a regular basis. :\

Jack's romance is fine. How it gets to a romance-possible state just seems... a bit silly.

She's probably my favorite of the human characters, but the aliens are all so much better, like Rakonas said.

There's a description, it's been close enough that I haven't had many issues.

How is someone who's never met you supposed to guess what you'd like, when you can't name anything specific you'd change?

Because that is their job? If you goto a resturaunt and order some soup, you don't have to be able to tell the chef what ingredients would make it better in order to say it tastes bad. (Also they shouldn't be trying to make the game based on what everyone likes, they should just try and make a good game. Noone is going to like everything and nothing is going to be universally popular.) One helpful hint would be: stop making everyone's backstory be either about their dad, about their lack of a dad, or about their kid.

@Ehndras: You beat the entire series as both paragon and renegade? And you had the same war readiness score (or whatever it's called, i forget)? I was under the distinct impression that for most choices paragon would end up with more points... But that's just going from what I've been told by other people.

Hey now, that's only Jacob, Samara, Thane, Miranda and Tali, with both Garrus and Wrex having some issues (Garrus isn't on good terms with his dad, Wrex's dad tried to kill him, etc etc). And I suppose Liara is pretty estranged from her 'father' (the bartender matriarch).

Am I forgetting anyone?

Not to mention that to create a fully dimensioned character they need a whole lot of more screentime for development than they got in ME2 (and more subtle characterisations). The whole "do a mission; come back and spend five minutes talking with interacting with getting 'personality exposition' from each character; repeat" thing really, really doesn't lend itself to either believable characters or relationships.

Yeah, but you also wouldn't just order "soup" and keep sending back misau until someone guessed you wanted chicken noodle.

That's what I was asking about. Anyway, sorry, it touched on a pet peeve, I'll drop it.

Unrelated:
I started a new game+ with my engineer. James with that Falcon grenade rifle and inferno ammo is pretty crazy. Between him and Garrus with a Javelin/Shepard with the non-squad armor piercing ammo as a bonus power, insanity is going pretty quickly. I find myself wishing I could unlock all the weapons from a previous game on a new playthrough, so I could enjoy them without being broken OP.
