Is it just me or did the writing get worse in ME3 compared to ME2? I mean, I just don't remember cringing while playing ME2 as much as I did when playing the ME3 demo.

Especially the stuff on Earth. You've got cliche after cliche with terrible dialogues. Like with the stupid kid? Or everyone dying besides the two "important" people? Or with the whole "I'm staying here!" shit where the idiot stalls the ship even though there's supposed to be a sense of impending danger like they could get shot down at any moment?

I mean, I always found some stuff in the previous MEs to be totally stupid, like the council not believing you after saving their asses, but I don't recall this big an overload of stupid in one go.

mass effect 1 was okay, but the inventory system was godawful and the combat system was pretty sucky. the story was okay i guess

mass effect 2 was better imo, but the stuff with the rapers didnt make any sense and kinda came outta nowhere (i mean raper fetuses, really). the thermal clips were stupidly explained but honestly the fighting was infinitely better than ME1 where it came down to "SPAM BIOTIC POWERZ" or "hide behind a wall and spray wildly until everythings dead".

also planescape is pretty cool

The person supporting regenerating health, when asked why you can see when shot in the eye justified it as 'you put on an eyepatch'. When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

I spent all of the weekend playing the demo.  It was amazing.  Starter pack gave me salarian infiltrator, and I have been bossing it up with abused proximity mines.  (They don't need to be placed beforehand, just shoot them directly at people.)  I almost always end with the highest score of my group, with about 1/2 of my kills coming from proximity mines.

AAH! Damn you Bioware. Why do you have to go and make MP worth playing. Now I'm going to have to use the Renegade choice and support Origin :'(
How well does the demo run compared to... say, Skyrim.

I am, pretty good not having to deal with Origin. Problem, PC gamers? :P

Dammit, EA is being evil again. I'll join the boycott.

Nothing about their plan really surprises me. And they'll still make money. Kinda wondering how far things like this go before the majority says "enough." I'm guessing we still have a long way to go.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Bioware's outlook seems pretty bleak.

i) EA is a company who's modus operandi is buying up studios and churning out mediocre sequels until the public catches on, at which point they close the studio
ii) Bioware's last two games were EA published flops attached to established IPs
iii) It's on an unpopular digital distribution system
iv) Content related to the main plot was cut for use as day-one DLC
v) It was written by Mac Walters, famous for the retcons, Shyamalan twists, and plot holes in ME2.  Drew Karpyshyn, the original lead writer of ME1 has left Bioware

To top it off, if it's anything less than a spectacular success EA's probably going to start cannibalizing the studio.

That summary scares me. Mostly because I pretty much believe it; I really want ME3 to break that EA-influenced losing streak, it's my favorite series in recent years -- but every point you make is one I've been irritated by since EA took over.

All that said, can someone explain to me (without spoilers, if possible) what the above video details? They really left out vital main-plot content to sell a launch-day DLC?

If that's the case, does that mean "collector's edition" versions from EA are actually "standard," and the "standard edition" is actually a crippled version of the game missing key features/story? If so, that's really bullshit. I paid $60 for the regular version. That's a lot of money for me. Guess I should have just ran with the extended demo + all DLC goodies instead.

Sorry for the rant. I've been looking forward to ME3 for a long time, but all this EA-added shit is rather heartbreaking.

I think the boycott rhetoric is overblown, nobody can really know that this DLC dude is essential to the plot. It's just TB stirring up video views. Expecting this to turn out the same as every other game 'boycott': with basically everyone who got worked up about it buying the game.

The DLC prothean was in the leaked plot details from when the demo was originally leaked. As of that version of the Demo, he was a crucial character to the point. They have been working on this character for a while now, and while it is not clear if he is as important to the plot as he originally was, he was a character they had in mind from pretty much day one, which they are now scalping buyers over for a few more, so there is some justification to the uproar.
