Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

I finally got my Horse mount to evolve into Unicorn. It's awesome! It keeps stealing all my kills though :( , it spears everything through the brain with its horn before I can finish them off. The Divine damage flag and First Strike property means it hits first in the combat round and does a crapton of hitpoint damage.

Sigh...

To all of you "nukes everywhere" people, that mode is unlocked as sandbox after quest #1487. #1488 is the final battle, the rest are subquests.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm not spoiling the place where the battle happens, for the sake of you running in there and breaking continuity. It took me months to get there, anyway.

To prevent that from happening, you can exploit a glitch with the Horse Armor expansion pack: as long as the Shadowmane Armor is equipped BEFORE the horse meets the pre-requisites for evolution, it won't evolve but will keep on raising its stats... if you're patient enough, you can build it to uber-godlike stats before evolving (remove the armor, sleep a couple of days and it should do the trick)!

Is it true that what you feed the horse to make it grow influences the form it will evolve into? I've been trying feeding ashes and charred meat to mine to get a Nightmare, but it always pukes and dies from internal bleeding... WTF?

Cool off the meat before feeding it to the horse, dammit, in fact why are you even feeding a horse with meat, the raws don't work that way. You're offering absurdly hot meat to an animal that dosen't eat meat, that screws stuff up.

You'll need a Dawn Stone in order to get a Nightmare. The tallest peak in the world has a cave at the peak (It should be called The Mountain of Coronets or similar), and inside there's a Dawn Stone and some frost lass ghosts. Kill the ghosts (they're made of ice, so not a huge problem, despite being ghosts), take the Dawn Stone.

Then, 'I'nteract with the Dawn Stone while standing next to your horse, apply it to the horse, and it should evolve.

Applying the Dawn Stone to yourself has some...interesting effects which are a rather major spoiler.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I inserted the Dawn Stone into a nearby Fluffy Wambler. It renamed to "Caerbannog" and instantly attacked; jumping 4 tiles where it collided with my head making it sail off in an arc!

Jeez, why is this the only strategy guide I can find of this game?  :'( I can't get past the skeletal giant weevles because I forgot to take #235's bonesaw...

Smash the door in the corridor, it should have a chest that contains a flame longsword. It should work, and you'll get the Ingenious Merit as well.

But where do I go after slaying the zombie wambler? I think I have to go to The Plains of Strangulation, but the level 57 Rhesus guards always get me.

You have to bring the flute of panaegaea with you to soothe them. Then they give you the skull key.

Find a plateau that's around 30 z-levels high that has 3 trees surrounding an altar (there's one of these every once in a while in the wilderness. Just keep walking, and you'll find one). Do a ritual by using the skull of three enemy stronghold boss characters (they don't have to be bosses from the main quest line, and can be any race) and the weird amulet that sometimes spawns on the leaders (I think this amulet is only in the mod). Some kind of information spirit will show up and tell you where the best match for your character skill level is. For me, the info ghost spawned as an owl-ish looking thing, but it might be different for you. They generally spawn as some kind of animal though.

Edit: I forgot to add that you can ask the information ghost lots of other questions about stuff in the mod. It's like an in-game FAQ, with targeted information specifically generated for your character.
