Yeah, I've read the wiki but perhaps i've missed it: what is the overall goal of the adventure mode...is it just to stay life as long as possible?
Is the game play mainly fulfill that quest by killing those creatures xyz?

Yes there is, everyone on the forum tries to hide it, but you are really an avatar of Armok trying to regain his throne from a human wizard who is attempting to use it's power to exterminate the dwarves. You learn this midway, after doing 42 quests for people. Pretty epic boss fight afterwards.

It's fight 39 which I can never get past. I know it's a blind, handless elf with a missing foot passed of from pain but they still manage to bit my entire head/arm/second finger off every time!

Adventurer mode doesn't truly have a point yet.  It is there to have some fun, kill some things if you can, add to the world's history, and maybe change the world's Age.

21 is the hardest really, considering how equipped you are at that time. After that tho you get one of the avatar weapons. Which one depends on which weapon skill you have most of. Actually, you can get the legendary weapons earlier, by

sparing number 9's life, then waiting until 17. Yeah, it was pretty hard to find out since it's quite early in the game.

Edit: By the way can somebody tell me how to get the Blade of Armok? When I try to take it it disappears. I heard it can only be picked up only when you fit a few certain requirements.

You have to spare the life of every prime numbered fight, yet leave them with no limbs, besides their head, using only the copper dagger you start with, and using no armor whatsoever.
