Quote from: article
The game will run on an all-new “Creation Engine,” which features focus on lighting, draw distance, foliage and realistic environmental and weather effects
Not on dialogue, story or characters, then? I guess any sort of actual content would be too much to hope for.

Uhh that's a bit of a weird complaint there since he mentions it's the engine there he's talking about. The engine is typically NOT responsible for the content of it all :P It might be involved but otherwise the content is a different thing entirely.

Personally improving the Draw Distance and LoD stuff is pretty important, since Gamebryo is absolute shit at that.

Nah, it's just me being bitter ;). At least on the story and character part. Dialogue is a bit different.

Perhaps he meant in performance, not quality?

Yah, Oblivion suffered from a LOT of Pop-in issues and really awkward LoD transitions, buildings suddenly appearing that weren't there before as you approach, etcetera. This became more clear I think in Fallout 3, where there weren't many trees to hide the LoD problems

Hm... A lot the stuff they're promising sounds even better than the stuff they promised with Oblivion... Which is exactly why I'm skeptical.

I'm pretty sure that thread was locked because one guy made 20 complaining about games threads in a very short span of time.

Where did this idea come from?

Might just be me remembering things wrong.  probably is.

I know there was a bunch of threads that got locked, though, made by deus ex machina, here:

Well I'm not DEM, so I didn't make those threads.  In fact I've made 3 threads in the last 2 months and only the one about Oblivion was locked.

In fact I've made 115 threads since February 08 which averages out to approximately 1 thread every nine days.

DEM on the other hand has started 202 threads since December 30th 2010 which averages out to approximately 11 threads per day.

Yay Math!

I know.  I just thought that comparing mathematically would be fun.

Even though that picture is low-res and blurry (and possibly a photo of a TV screen), you can still see there's no trees drawn in the distance and those just slightly further away from the player are all the same. The terrain in the distance looks about as detailed as a game from 1999.

I hope their new Creation Engine isn't just a resurrection of the Gamebryo engine after the company developing it went under. Not because of possible detail level, or anything like that, but because of disproportionately terrible performance for the detail level shown.

The new engine looks awesome. Have any screenshots of what characters look like been revealed yet?

Actually he's started 22.  Although he did make 202 posts overall.
