Yeah, I thought it was awesome that I got a Ralts before Wally did. I also got an Abra on my first try in Granite Cave.

What do you mean by that last part? If it means what I think it means, yes, I can switch Pokemon. This isn't to make it easier so much as it is a way to spread out the fighting and keep the party evenly leveled. Also, it allows strategy to still be used, keeping the game interesting. When you're fighting the Psychic Gym with a fighting type, things get pretty stupid pretty fast. The goal is not to guarantee death, the goal is to make death hard to avoid.

Well I remember(at least from Red/Blue/Yellow) there being an option for either set or switching battles. With switching battles every time you KO an opponent you know what the enemy is going to send at you and you get a chance switch appropriately. With set mode when you KO you immediately fight the next pokemon and if you need to switch you have to lose a turn.

Oh, that option. Yeah, I use the set battle option all the time anyway, but I'll add it to the rules.

Spoiler: Mind Over Matter (click to show/hide)
Goddamn I hate critical hits.

Did I mention that you can't run from a fight, no matter how difficult or easy it may be? I'll update the first post. Also, while fighting in Gyms you may only use as many Pokemon as the leader has. Rivals and Elite Four are fair game, though, since there are 26 Elite Four Pokemon and your Rival always has stupidly high level Pokemon anyway.

Yeah. I've done a Nuzlocke challenge before, but this seems slightly different. One that I think isn't on that list is killing all the legendaries.

Yeah, that ruleset is for weaklings.

PS: Spoiler that, that's a huge image.

I actually started this game using those rules, and it was way too easy. I like a challenge, so I started adding more and more rules until MANGRIT. Having battles be tense and dangerous is fun.

Well, being able to just run to a Pokemon Center after each battle was both annoying and undermined the whole challenge. The rules about banning either items or Pokemon Centers were both easy to undermine; get a lot of money via Pickup if Pokemon Centers are banned, and repeatedly run to a Pokemon Center if items are banned.

As far as a white-out equaling a Game Over, that is actually more beneficial than just releasing all the Pokemon that used to be in the party. If you think about it, restarting lets you get Pokemon from each route again, as well as retraining your team to overcome the challenge that stopped you. The way I do things, losing your whole party means that you have to get another from your box. If you don't have any more, game over. If you do (sort of unlikely, and you definitely won't have many), then you have to retrain it anyway and then find a way to get more Pokemon without being able to pass the challenge that stopped you. (Unless you level that one Pokemon up high enough to win on it's own, but damn.)

I just have one question. You say legendaries can be caught but not used right? But what if your Legendary is the last pokemon you have period? Are you allowed to use it then as the 'Ultra secret weapon'?

Nope, you lose. I want to catch the legendaries for usage on some of my other Pokemon games (I'm using an actual cartridge), but I don't want to make the game any easier. Thus they go into stasis instead of just being murdered.

EDIT: Working on Episode 04. This one's going to cover everything up to Rustboro. Then the next one will include everything up to Dewford. The next one will cover Dewford, and then the next will cover Slateport. Afterwards, I can start playing again, and suggestions for names can be taken along with other suggestions.

So what about the first two routes before you get a pokeball?  Does the Only Catch Your First Encounter rule count before it's possible to catch one?  I managed to find stuff on both of my first two routes before I had a pokeball.

Err... I guess so. I didn't have that problem; I took all the shortest paths so as to avoid fighting any until I had some.
