A snow storm has come.
« on: December 11, 2010, 02:56:33 pm »

So, Bay12ers, I live up in Minnesota, and currently we're getting the largest blizzard we've had since 1991. If you've ever been to Minnesota during a snowy winter, you know that is a BIG DEAL. There are at least two feet of snow outside one of my doors. Everything I was planning on going to has been canceled, not that I could even get out of my driveway to go, so naturally, today is a fine day to spend playing Dwarf Fortress!

Anyone else live in Blizzardpocalypse? What opportunities do you take to play?

I don't live there, but I do spend most of my Christmas break in Maine, and I play whenever there's too much snow outside to open the door. It tends to happen a lot.

I live in VA, so that was last year for us. It literally snowed in most of the New England area for a month straight. This year is rather mild though, damn.

If you hit a dwarf with moving water with sufficient strength it will knock the baby out of the mother's arms.  The water can then be used to sweep the baby into a well or cistern for drowning.  The device which does this can also double as a mist generator.

AMEN BROTHA!!

I've got a 4 foot snow drift from the wind holding my front door closed. They cancelled my first Drill for the Minnesota National Guard because of this storm. Snow stops the mighty United States Army

Also in VA! The big snowfall last December came the day I was leaving college for break. My mom couldn't get the 4-wheel drive anywhere close to campus housing and I had to carry all my possessions through a quarter mile of 2.5' deep snow. It was pretty much unprecedented.

When it flurried here the other day, the town rolled out the saline/sand stuff for the roads. I think they stockpiled after getting caught without enough last year.

I live farther north, but we've gotten depressingly less snow.
The main problem right now is that the sun is closer to the horizon so it burns in my eyes.
That and that the trade depot is packed with humans this time of year, so I try to stay indoors with Dwarf Fortress.

I am jealous. I like in Connecticut, and I'm dying to see some snow. I'm in the winter mood, and I need some snow to complete it. But all I saw was a very light flurry last night, and that's it. I wouldn't even care about being snowed-in at this point.

Great Britain calling, wondering what the White stuff that used to burry us inside our houses is and why we have it on december and not in April because of Our Weather being forgetful of what Season it's supposed to be.

Since everybody else is doing it:

I live in Kansas.  When I got off work, it was snowing but there's hardly any.  Just enough for the wind to create those wispy little drifts that I think look cool going across sidewalks or the road.  I've been considerably less fond of snow since I started having to drive in it, but it still gives me a happy thought.

Another VA person here, just across the river from DC. Last year was what, three or four feet of snow here over the whole season? Doubt we'll get a repeat of that, but they are predicting flurries or something for Monday.

Nancy, France. There is an ungodly mixture of leftover snow that won't melt, and cold rain. I didn't know you could slip and slide like that without the temperature dropping under 0°C.

Biag cancels everything: Snow storm raging.

I live in Australia, and it is far too hot to go outside right now. I could go to the beach, but I hate sunburn with all of my rage.
