Dunnae. I never have problems with bandits...they're actually quite disappointing, imho.

Kobolds are an exception, what with their Steel equipment and sneakiness!

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

What i mean is, Bandits can be easy, but this is DF.
One lucky shot can end you for good.
And one lucky shot can break a dragons head off with a pebble.

Note that the more companions you bring with you, the tougher the bandits you fight will be (at least numerically).

So wait, the more precautions I take to keep from dying, the more likely I am to die?  ???

Also, for some odd reason bandit lords will ambush me shortly after getting a quest to kill them, for some odd reason they forget that when fighting a demigod you should not BRING ONE STINKING BODYGUARD.

Considering that any allies you bring are very unlikely to contribute more than their bodies as meatshields, while the additional bandits their presence provokes might include a few elite archers, the best company to take when you're on an assassination mission like this is yourself, and no one else.

It is still a good idea to take them when you fight demons

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.

I prefer taking ONE companion, and making sure they become as badass as possible.  Use DfFusion to get them armor ASAP.  This way, you don't have to worry about bogeymen, and with only one companion, they'll get more of the experience than they otherwise would.  Once their skills get high enough they'll be pretty much invincible, and can actually contribute to fights.

Oh yeah, make sure to go to the sea and use DfFusion to get them to Adequate Swimmer, too.  It's always embarrassing when your legendary companion dies from falling into a murky pool and drowning.

One option is to create an adventurer, equip them as best as you can, and then retire them so that your primary adventurer can recruit them. They'll keep their weapons and armor though they'll switch out their clothes for whatever reason. That can be a bit annoying if they had adamantine clothes when you retired them though the replacement clothes will be fairly ritzy goods made of mundane material.

They might only change worn clothes though.

The bandits do not get magically harder I believe, HOWEVER people will send you after more powerful bandits if you have proven yourself by killing other things.  So it is sort of like a difficulty increase. :)
