I love my Legendary Engraver
« on: December 10, 2010, 07:17:15 pm »

"Engraved on the wall is an exceptionally designed image of Inod Paintguards the Dwarf and mussels by Iton Alathamnek. Inod Paintguards is surrounded by the mussels. Inod Paintguards looks terrified."

My engraver just engraved this image into the wall of the bedroom of my expedition leader, Inod, who hates mussels. I happen to think it's fantastic that he'd immortalize a fear, rather than more engravings of boots or elves fighting goblins.

One of my engravers did this before, in 40d. In my mayor's 5x5 bedroom, about 10 of the walls had pictures of him surrounded by purring maggots and looking terrified(He had maggot-phobia). One was right across from his bed, so I imagine him, every morning, waking up, seeing the picture, screaming in terror and falling off his bed.

I wonder, what would they do if someone killed their king.
Inevitable, who cares. Now an onion...

You should check the expedition leaders thoughts. I remember reading that dwarves get upset from seeing images of things they don't like. I'm not sure how close a dwarf has to be to see the engraving.

Required distance is rather irrelevant, as the engraving is on one of the pillars beside the one-tile-wide door. There's no way he can avoid it. -evil grin-

I checked, and as near as I could tell, he didn't have any objections to the leader.

Sadly, they all died. I mentioned in the 'What's Going on in Your Fort' thread that I had a firestorm raging across the surface of the fort; since then, a pair of ill-timed goblin ambushes appeared and turfed anyone I sent to fight them. My dorfs all died after refusing to grab weapons, and due to my inexperience with combat, it took two reclaim attempts to drive out the surviving goblins and the forgotten beast that had been sealed in the cave but randomly appeared as an ambush on the surface during my first reclaim attempt.
