First, this post is not research-backed journalism.

I got a paragraph in, started skimming and my eyes magically were drawn to this series of scribbles. Indeed, there's nothing researched or non-opinionated in what he says.

I honestly know very little about the lore of Warhammer.

And it's painfully obvious from the first sentence that he grew up with GoW just like some kids grew up with Halo and said 40k rips it off. Not that I want to defend GWS, that has borrowed from damn near everywhere over the last ~30 years.

The funny part for me is, I think this game will probably do everything that GoW failed to do for me, including ranged combat that isn't annoying and boring, and movement that doesn't feel like my arms are stapled to my torso at the waist. Until GoW, I'd never played a full blown, million dollar action game where I literally spaced off while playing. But GoW2 managed to do exactly that, right in the middle of the huge crawler battle sequence. My eyes just kind of slid off the screen and then I realized I'd just been glancing at the wall for 45 seconds or a minute while the game was going. I looked back at my friend who I was doing co-op with and he just kind of nodded and went "You want to turn this crap off?"

There is more emphasis on melee fights, or hand-to-hand combat, so the engagement range with enemies is typically farther than it is in Gears of War.

Hurp durp?

Anyways, despite the guy's stupid way of arguing it, he is making a good point. Games that could be unique nowadays simply borrow other ideas from games.

I thought Gears of War 2 was a lot of fun.  The campaign was pretty mediocre, but the multiplayer was fun, or at least at first it was.  I was lucky enough to get a solid month or two of enjoyment out of the multiplayer before the Two Piece took over.

For those not in the know, if you melee a person with the shotgun and immediately pull the trigger you'll blow their head off every single time.  Before long everyone and his grandma was doing this and multiplayer was completely fucked.

Looks pretty good, but I have to agree with people saying the chaos marines look a bit weak, and hoping they aren't just mooks when there are plenty of chaos mooks, like lesser daemons or cultists. Also them being ultramarines and the game play not even fitting them.

I hope they do the weapons right though, they might make say the meltagun completely better than the bolter, when in fact in should have a short range (or damage dropping over range) and slow firing. I'd like to see an overheating system with plasma too.

You can think of the protagonist as being in an Imperial propagandistic holodrama. That explains how he can recover from having more bullet holes then flesh, and why chaos seems like crazy wimps.

I don't want to think of that.  I want to think of serious Mehrens vs Serious Chose Mehrens.

Don't worry, it's also for PC.
The real complaint is that the players are Ultimaroons.
Looks like if you pre-order, you get free DLC that swaps the Ultramarine textures for Blood Ravens. It's not much, but I have to play this game on principle, so I may just pre-order and get the Blood Ravens pack and Darksiders for the price of one.

That article is the most nonsensical thing I have ever heard. In the fourth paragraph, the guy even admits that THQ told him that 40k has been out ages before Gears, and that if anyone is copying stuff, it's the other way around. And then goes right back to bitching about it being a copy. How ignorant can you get....

It pretty much does. There are flamethrowers, and Chaos are the closest thing to zombies you're going to get out of the 40K universe.
EDIT: Sorry, I should actually say that Necrons are. But they don't appear to be in this game.

I wish people would just stop bitching about "copying" and "ripping-off". I wish we could all just say "Inspired by" and just leave it at that. It's really hard to make a completely original game nowadays, because if you come up with a gameplay concept that you think is new and original, chances are that another game, obscure or not, has already used that concept. Besides, saying that 40K: Space Marine is copying Gears of War because it's a third person shooter with big dudes in power armor is like saying that some guy is copying another guy because they both have the same hairstyle.

The Necrons also tend to have a lot more firepower than your standard zombie.

It'd basically be if Morul was one of those undead lords instead of a dwarf.

I'd say orks are probably closer to zombies in the 40k universe than Necrons. Necrons are....like fucking scary. Orks are the big tidal mass of flesh that you chew through with automatic weapons. They just happen to be lovably awesome, unlike zombies.

Genestealer cults are also kind of zombie-esqe, with their hybrids.
