Bunp for new info.  They released a multiplayer trailer.  8v8 class-based combat, Spes Mehrens vs. Khayoss Spes Mehrens.  So far it looks like there's only three classes (Tactical/Devastator/Assault-Chaos/Havoc/Raptor) but they might just not have revealed the fourth one, dunno.  Looks pretty fun.  I'll probably end up preordering it, it looks cool and you get Darksiders for free which will free me of another pirated game's guilt.

Forgot to mention, lots of shit to customize your dood, all the standard stuff.  Gameplay looks like Gears of War but with less hiding behind things (Because somehow that moldy sofa blocks bullets better than your high tech combat armor)

EDIT:  Gave in, preordered.  Now at least I don't have to play Ultimaroons.

Individual spoilers for how each Necron lord dies in Fall of Damnos, in order of "importance", from lowest to highest.

Flayed One:

Warrior:

Immortal:

Destroyer:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for this game, combat looks really rock-paper-scissors, tactical dances around assault and plinks them to death, devastator guns down tactical with overwhelming firepower and assault lands on top of devastator and nullifies their big gun. And several instances where somebody runs past another player, who doesn't react until the attacker turns around and kills them makes me fear for the controls

Pretty much decided I can wait for this one to be $20 or cheaper. Really wasn't a fan of GoW's game play at all, and I can't be arsed to do MP. For a SP shooter experience, even if it's 40k, I ain't payin' top dollar.

I'm not sure how you got that from the trailer but okay.

I'm trying to figure out what the article is about but all I see is the author vehemently screaming DURRRRRRRRR DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR HUR DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Hahahaha, yeah I know, it's like, 'I'm totally ignorant about most things, but this is my job so I have to post it online!' Really now, that article is beyond the pale. It was either masterful trolling at which I tip my hat with an evil yet accepting glare, or the man simply did not do the research which I promise you would have been quite enjoyable compared to most research.

"WHAT?! I MUST READ SOMETHING TO SOUND SMART WHEN I HAVE OPINIONZ?"

EDIT: That said, the screenshot looks cool. I won't buy it. How about, just once, you try and make a really good game for a fanbase that already exists, using about the same resources, except you actually have to implement the stuff it's based off of. That's what I'd want in a Warhammer game. I mean it's survived what, 20 something years?

EDIT2: What they should have done is the same graphics and if it had to be a shooter then make it like a good TF2 knockoff but the teams would be bigger (I'd like to see 1000v1000 battles one day)

Better yet would have been with graphics like that but to make an actual WH40k video game that mimics the tabletop PRECISELY as everyone wants to play the awesome tabletop game but people don't want to buy the figurines for it. I assume that is probably a big wrench in the gears, so I figure you throw those people who are making the $ from keeping WH40k from transferring into a cheaper medium a percentage and the market expansion achieved by making this awesome game would put smiles on their faces in the long term.

Yeah, it'd be cool, especially having customizable armies and stuff, but I doubt they'd ever actually risk their gray plastic empire on something that obviates a lot of people's need for spending hundreds of dollars.

They could probably do something where you buy units with microtransactions, that could either be a big flop or a ridiculous gravy train.  I think a lot of people would stay tabletop though, for a lot of them the hobby part is 70% of the fun.

Can't this already mostly be done using Map Tools or another online RPG program? A quick Google search found this thread at the top, which discusses the possibility and implementation. From the thread it seems Games Workshop is aware that their plastic empire is already in danger of being toppled by such simple measures to replicate their war game.

Of course it would be much cooler if everything was done in 3D. Really, it's in their own long-term interest to begin investing in a video game version.

There's a demo out.  Right now only preorders (I preordered) can play it but in a few days everyone will be able to.

It's pretty cool, actually.  There's two missions, a long one with no surprises and a shorter one where you get a jump pack.  You get four weapons, the standard bolt pistol/chainsword combo, a bolter, a stalker pattern bolter (Sniper rifle, basically), and a vengeance cannon (Or something like that), which I'm pretty sure doesn't exist in the actual fluff.  It's just a sticky grenade launcher basically.

The ranged combat's okay, not much to it, the melee combat's fun, you get covered in blood, the finishing moves are cool (When you kill a nob you knock his choppa away and shove your chainsword into his mouth), you really get to feel like a space marine.  You have a healthbar that doesn't automatically recharge and an armor bar that does.  When the armor's down your power armor sparks and whirrs and shit, which is a nice touch.

The jump pack's cool I guess, not a huge deal.  You jump high and far, you can ground pound and kill people.  No big deal.

[spoiler=Sperging out]
They did it again.  Bolters are machine guns.  You can fire your whole clip in one burst instead of being limited to four round bursts like an actual(hurr) bolter.  They also have shell casings and don't explode.  Typical.

Cthulhu, you can find a power axe in the end of the Inquisitor mission when you fight that huge wave of boys. It's in one of those AdMech pods or something, like the jump pack.

Can't wait until I get my hands on the demo. Haven't decided on which to preorder yet; PC or Xbox.

The 5th edition space marine codex introduced vengeance shells for boltguns, and I think grenade launchers of some variety, but to my knowledge nothing like that.

On bolters- while 3 or 4 round bursts are common I don't think boltguns capable of automatic fire are unknown, it's not a major problem. I don't think being bolts being all (or even mostly) caseless has actually been canon for a long time- practically every piece of space marine artwork has cases, and the models tend to have ejection ports, often on both sides. But yes, they should explode, and should be more like rockets than bullets.

How do you kill a necron any ways?
With great difficulty.
They have limits to how much regeneration they can do, it consumes power, and they only have so much in the power cells. Also dismemberment can be rather difficult to fix, as long as the parts aren't right next to each other.
I believe they also have some form of "soul crystal" you can destroy.
