walls not dampened diagonally
« on: October 30, 2007, 11:40:00 am »

This is a shot from below a 'Brook' stream, when the 'dampened' tiles are flashing. The exposed loam tiles are diagonally connected to the river and so the river can flood through them if they are dug out. But since they arn't dampened they won't trigger a dig cancellation.

I had a similar problem with magma.  When mining towards the wall of a volcanic crater, only those squares north, south, east or west were indicated with a heat warning.  Squares connected diagonally did not have this warning, and were mined out.  This allowed the magma to flow through the diagonal opening and flood that level of the fortress, until I could construct a wooden barrier to stop it.  I'm not entierly sure that wooden walls should have stopped magma either.  Ideally it would be best to have the tiles contacting magma diagonally give a warning, just as those diagonally connected to water do in the current version.

Version 0.27.169.33a
Note that the world map for this game was created in version 0.27.169.32a, but this fortress was started after the new version was installed.  It is unknown if that has any influence on the situation.

In an aside to the bug report, and more of a story telling mode, the lava flow killed both my miners, and destroyed (or at least left inaccessible) my two mining picks.  This largely brought all underground progress to a halt.  Such crippling mistakes make for interesting chalenges.
