bumping because I just tried trenching... magma flood, quitted before bad things.. SRSLY HOW I FIX???

channel down where you want your forge to go. then dig from the up-ramp that creates over to your volcano, stopping one tile short of the magma flood. designate the last square for mining, and once that square is claimed by a miner make sure there are other mining designations for him to get to once he's done. Lava will start to flow, dwarf will escape up the ramp to safety. build your magma forge/smelter/etc. over the ramp, and you have a working magma thing.

Sorry, I havn't played any succession online, although I would like to, and should some time. I have played a fair amount of succession, but that's because I know a few DF players, and they know there own band of DF players, so instead of a set play order, we trade save games like candy. Always fun to make LOTS of levels that do realy interesting things.

HMM... My brain just grew thanks! trying it...

EDIT: I realize that I need to use pumps if i want to do this in my other fortress....

Easier way then that is to just dig upto one block away from the cave, go up a level channel it, less chance of roast dwarf as well xD

yea, pumps are needed if you don't have a volcano and want workshops above the cavern layers. the point is to channel out the path for the magma before you trigger it, and make sure it will only go where you want it to.

I've seen that but I don't know enough to try it.. I'm going to start a unrelated thread... then i'm going back to laboredlash

EDIT: things are going smooth for laboredlash... but one hiccup

It was kinda... a dog bone shield... nothing special about it, it's just of the highest quality. She (the dwarf) is now a legendary bone carver.  cool.

Fustrated in seeing the same damn message displayed over and over again, trying to get them to take the squirrel out of the cage, I give up and tell them to remove the building. So they took the squirrel out of the cage and put him in another to remove the original cage.

before I show the fort:



people were carring stuff to and from the depot. had a kobold suprise before hand. so i set up a burrow and told my squad to defend lo and behold 5 people fall over asleep effectively blocking the way in or out. no one could do anything. so I took them off active duty and everything cleared up.

Moral: Never underestimate stupid.
