Miasma problem has 2 preemptive fixes.

1) designate a refuse stockpile outside the fort. Any item that can become miasma will be brought to it.
2) create a trash room inside your fort (designated as a refuse stockpile). If you have access blocked by a door, or have the only access be a diagonal path, the miasma will be unable to spread.

If it's there, you just have to wait it out and make sure no dwarves go near it.

As for those stones, the coal and liginite can be made into fuel at a smelter. You'll need some charcoal made from wood at a wood burner for your initial smelter fuel though.

Limonite and Hemitite are ores of iron that can be made into iron bars at a smelter, and then used for assorted items at a metalsmith's forge, or smelted into pig iron, and then steel at the smelter with the aide of that dolomite.

Better then mine but seriosuly should have a bridge by now, i forgo a millitary for much later on with just a drawbridge XD
And a nice little Moat, i'll fill it with lava later on.
But seriously make a bridge and moat, so much safer then anything else.
Also for miasma just make a refuse room, near the fort entrance then go a few floor above and channel until your down to the pit, then surround top level with wall.
Nobody can shoot into it and no miasma
