Ooh, you have to do something like this for civs.  Maybe try to draw a border around their territories like a country map.  Me love you long time.  ???

Is there some kind of scale?  I can tell where the battles happened, but looking at that, I'd like to know how many battles "red" means, as opposed to an area that has had "yellow" amount of battles.

Or will there be some sort of right-click-and-see-a-list-of-battles-there interface?

Anyway, that does make for an interesting graph that I'd be sure to check every new world I make.

Wouldn't work currently because there are no actual borders in-game and civs just pick sites where they please. The in-game historical maps show territories, but from what I understand they are more an area of influence and not actual claimed territory so there is lots of overlapping. Maybe in the future though.

What I have in mind is you hover over a battle location and it displays the number of battles and expands to show individual battles and maybe a little info.

I'll probably try out displaying other data with heat maps as well like populations, deaths, battle deaths, beast attacks, and events.

Awwwh, nuts. And it could have been done so nicely with Voronoi subdivision if the cities weren't directly next to each other.

I do like the idea of the heat maps, especially for population.

That would be fantastic, I look forward to seeing what you can pull off.

I get the following error:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Any idea what's going on? I repaired my .NET 4 installation, but no luck. Could it be something else, the Genesis mod perhaps? Just wondering, as that's the only option I changed from default worldgen.

//A, interested

Make sure you have 1.09.2 since it sounds like the problem a couple others had. If that doesn't fix it I will look into it further.

i get that error too, in my machine locale though.
roughly translated as
Code: [Select]
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
at LegendsViewer.DwarfWorld.ParseSiteAndPops(StreamReader sitepops)
at LegendsViewer.DwarfWorld..ctor(String xmlFile, String historyFile, String sitepopsFile, String mapFile)
   at LegendsViewer.frmLegendsViewer.loadWorld_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)
   at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.OnDoWork(DoWorkEventArgs e)
   at System.ComponentModel.BackgroundWorker.WorkerThreadStart(Object argument)

.NET 4 installation is fine, and i use genesis mod too.

I've found a couple of weird unclaimed caves in my gen after adding [LIKES_SITE:CAVE] to a few entities, like Dwarves, to make them kill off more Megabeasts and possibly show up in adventure mode from time to time.  Works like a charm, until you look at the cave in Legends.  Unknownciv.  Involved in EVERY war.  And somehow it's still reported correctly as belonging to the civilization in question when you look at it from the overworld site map.

Want the archive this time? I only ask because I'm basically INTENTIONALLY trying to break LegendsViewer, in order to see if it can be made more robust.  After all, that's what a good game tester DOES, right?

Is it the Invalid Entity? Some mods can expose it because I've had to use it to fill in some gaps where events don't tell what is going on exactly. It's really not meant to be viewed and is more of a debug thing.

Well it appears, at least in this case, that the data is in there.  As I mentioned, it's ownership shows up on the historical map in LegendsViewer fine.

It's loading for me. You might try and regenerate all the files again. I keep thinking I once saw Dwarf Fortress export some really messed up files and re-exporting fixed it.

I can verify that for you, right here and now.  It seems that sometimes the game doesn't export things correctly at all, and causes very strange errors.  I was going to give a bug report at one point about a file that wouldn't load at all... but re-exporting indeed did the trick.
