Golems Universal Constructor
« on: December 09, 2010, 06:25:56 pm »

Golems is a 3D recreational physics simulator
Build robots, spaceships, clocks, catapults or cannons.
Add sensors, timers, switches, motors. Give it a brain. Make a mouse trap - or make a mouse.
Take the wheel and pilot your machine yourself.

Build anything.

This game, or should I say, toy, allows you to create 3D models and machines, design the wiring, and when it's ready, turn the Physics ON.

(The new golems forums are at http://bgucfanforum.runboard.com/)

I enjoy it, I enjoy taking the challenges on the forums.

An example of the absurd things you can make in Golems:

And one of the challenges compilation videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueQvW4GI5og

Golems was made by Sam Bayless, and, is still in development(The latest version is 0.56.0).

I hope you enjoy it, and enjoy fiddling with it :D.

EDIT:

2 Video tutorials for those who want them:
Actually, the first one to be made was the Spiral Tutorial :D

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.  The obvious solution is to chain the baby up at the entrance as a kobold detector.

Also, I forgot to mention, the wiki(and the tutorial which is in the wiki) is slightly outdated, some video tutorials can be found on the forums, I'll edit the OP once I find them.

Controls are nice, but how do I get stuff to do stuff? The only thing I got to work by attaching a battery to it was a rocket.

Wow I lost 20 minutes, now I went to the wiki and saw about "negative wires". Now I can finish my car! (Haven't read the wiki first, duh)

Btw yeah, it's 5:30 here. I'm on break from college so..

- I used to play Robot Arena 2, and the Workshop makes me remember this.
I spent hours on that thing just creating weird stuff, didn't even care for battles.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

Still wish you could put a mover on another mover without the physics freaking out.

Universal term I'm using for motors and pneumatics in Robot Arena 2.

I made two rectangular objects, and attached together via a powered hinge activated by a keypress, it flapped around. Kekekeke :P.

Is there some sort of settings.ini in the game files?

\Golems\dist\settings.jar
open this jar, it allows you to change settings.

Edit:
"\Golems" simply means the Golems directory.
