I just tripled in fort size...
« on: December 08, 2010, 09:09:21 pm »

Basically, yeah. I've been starving to death for a couple years, and had lost a few dwarves due to breaching the caverns accidentally, leaving me with only 8. According to dwarf therapist, this migrant wave I just had contained 22 dwarves... Death-starving, here I come! (Could it, perhaps, be a result of "finding" adamantine through the magma sea?)
Unrelated: Since when are there ghosts? I have a dead stoneworker haunting my fort, supposedly because I didn't bury his body.

You're starving to death with 8 dwarves?

Finding Adamantine will bring in the lazy slackers quick. In 4-5 years my fort was up to 200, now babies are popping up everywhere. I have a 100z level spire and another 50 level spire on the map. Mined out over 1000 units so far. Do you have above ground plants? Set a pile of them to plant gathering, that will bring in enough food to survive.

Ghosts, since .18. You need to put your dead in tombs. If their bodies are gone you need to carve slabs in a masons workshop, then engrave the ghosts name in a craftdwarfs workshop.

Basically, I really suck at managing things, I guess. That and my planter's working at the speed of a dead snail.

Fishing?

I also just build a fishery then my fisher/cleaner keep my food in overabundance until like 30-40 dwarves.

Or give a dwarf an axe and open a butchery. One or two aniimals should last you a month or so.

I didn't know that butchery was that effective... I have a near-constant supply of camels here, so I'll try that.
