Although by default Toady's dwarven females don't have beards (check their raws--the tags for giving them beards are there, but commented out, so you can turn them on quickly if you want, which I always do) I always imagine them with them anyway.

As far as physiology, in addition to turning on the beard-raws for them, I generally imagine that testosterone distribution is a bit more equalized in dwarves than it is in humans.  Not to the extent of, say, hyenas (where females have more testosterone than males), but more even.  Thus heavier musculature, more "masculine" builds, and facial hair for the females as well.  They would thus tend to have smaller, flatter breasts, so pictures of dwarf ladies with massive knockers make me chortle to myself.

So basically like grueburger--they're all just hairy angry raging drunks, and the only time you can tell which is which is when all their clothes rot off and they refuse to put on new ones.

Although, I would think that there would be some dwarves with impressive knockers. They are just rarer than the usual bunch.

I wonder, do female dwarves have different interests than male dwarves?

I like the approach taken by the artist of Bravemule (surely you have all seen this  AWESOME LP by now?) His female dwarves are neither hot nor beardy. They're just badass. And female. http://www.bravemule.com/gr51/ - scroll down for an example of swordsdwarfship.

No, she doesn't look like a superhero, but superheroes aren't all that dwarfy, are they? I think she is a pretty realistic representation of a woman whose life is a long drinking session punctuated by swordfights.

She looks like somebody I know of.

I can't see dwarf women as traditionally attractive; some might be unconventionally cute, in the manner of Dragon Age dwarves, but my usual envisioning of them is an average of one part old Polish grandmother, and two parts furious Valkyrie, with ratios changing according to age.

Worth noting is that if you go by the raws in their present state, the only physical differences between dwarves and humans is size, stats and eye coloration; they're evidently human scaled, but smaller and tougher.  Worse, the only difference between dwarves and elves is... stats, hair and eye colors.  Otherwise they're indistinguishable, possessing identical attribute appearance modifiers.  (EDIT:Ditto every other humanoid, funnily enough.  So goblins, kobolds, gremlins, trolls, gnomes... evidently, all are human-shaped at present.)  I imagine the raws will eventually be changed to differentiate the two creatures, but as it stands, it's perfectly possible for an elf and a dwarf to be physically identical.  They draw from the same skin tone pool, and there's plenty of overlap between eye and hair colors.  Make of this what you will.

This obviously means that elves and other, lesser evils are attempting to infiltrate our fortresses.

I don't think sexual dimorphism is bad. Let males have beards and females go without.

Well it depends on how much effort you put into the raws as a modder. If you make the ratios differ, then you would get more 'realistic' creatures. Change dwarves to have less body, and more arms/legs/head, while keeping the same mass would do it.

I'm actually mildly disappointed that he took the time to spell out "you". It is so close to the Platonic ideal of a YouTube comment. So. Close. Oh internet, what have you done to me?

Wirevix nailed it, females dwarves ought to be more masculine for they perform the same jobs of a male dwarf and don't get tired in the meantime, so they must have a similar physical build. However my military lacks female dwarves as I tend to think male ones are more savage (plus I hate when you see babies in the middle of the battle as if he/she was fighting against a goblin).

Female dwarves do not have beards. It's icky.
However, to the human/elf/whatever eye, the only difference is if they have a beard, and the females have larger breast... plates.
Also, most of my military dwarves end up being female, because the RNG hates my male dwarves. Luckily, no baby shields.

I think you guys are ignoring something important about dwarves. From my militia:

"she is corpulent" "she is fat" "she is strapped with massive amounts of muscle and lard" "she is just enormously fat."

That is what female dwarves look like. And male dwarves. And children. And babies...
