what the hell is a "body part" in terms of an artifact? i have all sorts of bones lying about and the guy still goes nuts and starts kicking dogs to death in the foundry.

If you had bones and he was still wanting body parts, he probably wanted shells.

Usually bones. Note that they actually have to be "bones," though, not "skeletons" or other random body parts.

However, if that particular dwarf has a preference for shell (check their units screen), they might require shell for their artifact. Liking shells is rare now, though it does still occasionally pops up, and it's very annoying since shells are so difficult to acquire nowadays.

you cant actually import them.  if the site contains none then you are stuck.  however the frequency of shell demands has been tamed down to be pretty much only those who like shells.  its supposedly possible to make the otherwise junk nervous tissue into a [SHELL] but i dont know how

You can buy turtle from the dwarven caravan.

I always bring a few barrels with me.

I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

That doesn't help; the turtle bought from caravans is prepared already, so the turtles' shells were removed. You just get the meat. The only way to get shells in vanilla DF is to fish for turtles or cave lobsters, then prepare them on site.

Or Mussels and Oysters.

Basically in this version you'll have either more shells than you could ever use (as you no longer need to wait for the fish to be eaten to get its shell), or you'll have none at all.

If it's a Fell mood then the body part they want comes from the nearest unsuspecting dwarf, that they will brutally murder and use dwarf bones to make something...

No-one seems to care tho

If your dwarf is sitting in his shop asking for parts though, it's not a Fell mood.  They'd automatically go out and harvest their resources...  But yeah, odds are he wants either shells or actual bones.  You only get bones by butchering animals, not from their rotting skeletons.
