Captains Log, Spring, 104.
We have arrived at Noramdeler, and here it is... flat.
Too flat for dwarves. I would have prefered mountains, but it is a
bit late to change my mind. Hmm... there's a river over there.
Maybe with a wall and a few bridges, that could be a place to live.
But we'll need stone. There's an aquifer in the way, though. I've
never been good with those. We'll have to settle on wood, for now
at least. I never thought I'd use wood on something that stone
could be used for. Maybe I have that disease, what was it called...
Onlyelvesusewooditis?
I told the woodcuters to go deforest the place. The elves
won't like this. But who cares what they think? We have two
dwarves with military training. I also designated some noble
positions, to those who requested them.
Now, for the next matter at hand, how to breach that
aquifer. It should be deep enough for the cave-in technique, but I
don't want to risk losing anyone. (Especially since I'm a miner.)
I saw some horses today, on the other sid of the river.
Those would make nice trading material. If only that bridge were
done... It's started, but not done.
Right, the bridge is finished. I ordered the wall built, and
it's about half done now. Soon we'll be 'safe' from our goblin
neighbors. (At least, I'll be able to convince everyone we're safe to
keep morale up.) Speaking of morale, I had a channel for a well
dug so we could de-salinate this water. I needed blocks and
mechanisms, so I had workshops built. Then... I realized we still
needed stone for those the well to be finished. We really need
to get through that aquifer.
I had a simple pump then wall-off room built, to get
through the aquifer. But wait... We still need stone blocks for that.
I might be forced to wait for the caravan to bring us stone in fall.
While thinking about the military, and clever ways of
defending us, I had an amazing idea. I must test if further before it
can be implemented in our fort. But, if it works, then goblins will
cower in fear at the mere mention of Noramdeler!
I had a windmill built, and I have no idea why. I must not
have been thinking clearly. Maybe I had too much booze?
Blasphemey, no such thing.
A herd of Muskoxes (Muskoxen?) charged our front gate
today, and... I don't even understand what happened. I was
expecting them to attack... but they just ran away.
Seven beds were built today (One for each dwarf),
along with a chair for me to do my stock-keeping on. Now we don't
have to worry about tantrum spirals... as much.
