A minor point, I know, but you do not seem to know the meaning of the word arrested. The guy willingly went to Scotland Yard. He was then arrested, and swiftly had a court appearance. Bail was applied for, refused and he spend the night in Wandsworth prison.

Assange was arrested by appointment at a London police station at 9.20am after a European arrest warrant was received by the Metropolitan police extradition unit yesterday. He appeared in court at 2pm, where he spoke to confirm his name and date of birth and to tell the court: "I do not consent to my extradition."

I am genuinely interested how that does not fall under the definition of being under arrest. When the public wants you arrested, then you're arrested. Otherwise, you're "being held pending a court date" or something.
