Put them in cages or murder them for their delicious meats.

But keep in mind that pregnant animals still produce trash if caged. So don't wonder if that happens.

So, I take it that there's no way to completely disable breeding in the raws?

I know that killing animals prevents them from reproducing, but I can't butcher pets of immigrants.

best you can do is kill all non-pets really to limit breeding to between pure pet pairs.  cage/butcher offspring of those.
Its often easier to pump the owner full of happy thoughts and arrange an accident, i dont think animal breeding is represented in the raws in the same way as dwarf genders

If you want to mod your game so that animals don't breed, go through the raws and remove all the [CHILD] tokens from the animals you don't want breeding.

Make sure you modify the raws in your data/save/regionx/raws/ if you want it to stop animals breeding in a currently active fort.

You can also use the fast-butcher method to fight hordes of pets:
Dig a shaft that is about 8 z-levels deep, make pit out of it and assign all pets. It will rain body parts! :D

Pets cannot be assigned to pits.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

There are several work arounds that involve pet tight doors or spikes around a lever (the pet will most likely stand next to the dwarf, not on the same tile) that can let you kill pets. In the worst case scenario, kill the dwarf and that should free up the pet. After all, you can always get more immigrants.  ;D

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
