Does what text file a creature is in really do anything? You'd think creatures in 'small riverlake' would live in rivers and lakes, but the biome tag tells the game that. Couldn't you move Bronze Colossus in there without anything happening?

Sure. Everything could be in one gigantic single file, if you felt like it. They're just separated for readability and ease of classification.
