It doesn't appear to be destruction so much as reclamation. If you want new and up to date information, you need to go to the site where people are putting it. But wikia seems to have every intent of pretending to be that site without actually being it.

Huh, I did see that the Touhou wiki was moving.  Although they have a massive link to the new site on their front page.

I checked out the discussion related to that, and there's several posts by a staff member, informing them that the Wikia will not be closed and the message will be taken down in a week or so. They take a firm stance of "It's too bad you're leaving, but we've decided this Wiki will go on without you and we're going to protect it." Even when the new site is explicitly stated to be a successor to the old, and the entire administrative staff is taking part in the move.

Hello, I am a community manager on Wikia and so work to support all of Wikia. As I have stated above, you are more than welcome to continue to participate on Wikia, but you can not simply use the Wikia service as a way to redirect people to another wiki. Just as I am sure on the new wiki would not want you linking back here on the main page there.I have removed the link to the new wiki wiki and will leave the current message up for another week (since it has already been up for a couple of weeks). After that time I will remove it entirely. Please do not revert this, or I may have to remove your rights or block you if you continue to misuse the service in this way. Please remember to be considerate to those who will remain here. Thank you, --Sarah (Help Forum) (blog) 23:03, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Edit: Looking at the main page history, the message she apparently agreed to leave up was this one:
Quote
The administrator of Touhou Wiki has decided to move to a new wiki host. You can read more about this discussion here. Thanks!
which was reverted to the current one one by a community member:
Quote
The administrator of Touhou Wiki has decided to move to a new wiki host, now at http://www.touhouwiki.net/. If you wish to move there, please register with the same username used here, so that your edit history is properly attributed to you. You can read more about this discussion here. Thanks!

She apparently reverted it back to the shorter message several times before posting the quote above, which means whoever reverted it to include the link may be in trouble now.

Someone make A WikiaWarWikia and copy tons of random pages into it.

Confusion is always a good side tactic.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Bah.  What a bunch of bastards.

I may have to create an account myself to help keep the message up.

I gotta ask, why? Wikia provide free webhosting for the wikis it's not as if it were a paid service, if you were living free in someone's spare room and they decided to redocrate it, would you go and smear excrement all over the walls , 'cause you disagree with the new wallpaper?

No, but you might move out, take your stuff, and leave a note for anyone coming to visit you.

Would it be okay for the owner to buy stuff that looks like yours, and continually go around telling your friends you still totally live there, and then pretend to be you?

You keep making it sound as if the new skin is the issue here. It's really not.
The issue is that people want to move their websites to a new host, and Wikia is actively stripping them of their right to do so. The only role the new skin plays is that Wikia's behaviour is only coming to light now because it prompted so many people to try to leave at once.

Essentially, people are trying to walk out in protest of Wikia's new policies, and Wikia is trying very hard to make it impossible to walk out in order to protect their income.

Yeah, this is one of those things where a website says "Any material you submit becomes the property of site FOO" and you just accept that okay, whatever, they aren't going to be evil about it or anything.

And then suddenly they are evil.
