Minimum flee distance?
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:20:52 am »

i've searched on magma wiki and the forums but i cant seem to find out what the minimum flee distance is is for non combat dwarves, trying to build a ballista battery with enough distance so they dont run from incoming enemies

Not sure about that flee question, sorry.

But the siege weapons are hilariously underpowered in this version. Had a ballista, manned by a professional rank siege operator on a ballista made from exceptional parts with steel tipped arrows. Missed 40% of the time and one of the direct hits only moderately damaged 2 goblin invaders wearing iron mail.

try with a safety pit of about 7-10 tiles before your siege engines fortifications :)

->Fxxxxxxxx...

x Pit
F Fortification
... target ground

downside ... you will need very good operators

that distance will keep em shooting on the most enemies

Also, the ballista arrows do NOT fly straight, if the firing path is a narrow corridor, the arrows can and will hit the walls and break.

is there a way to block line of sight while still allowing the ballista arrows to pass through a fortification?

based on reaction of civ dwarves to prisoners in target range, my good bet is 15-20 cells.

You could always make sure their line of sight doesn't, you know, exist.

We should kill a noble?
Naw. Merely make sure they won't see whatever they're shooting at.

Why the link? Nevermind I guess the joke is flying over my head.

Water goes through fortifications. And I don't think it blocks LOS, otherwise how do adventurers see underwater?
