Windows 7 or windows XP on new laptop?
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:06:55 am »

So, i just got a new computer (wanted a desktop, but my mom insisted on a laptop). It came with windows 7, I liked XP, and never had any problems with it, and i have heard bad things about Vista (and i think a few about 7, not sure though) and i fear that a windows 7 will have problem playing older games and such. I am pretty sure that i have a XP disk somewhere. So, what would you guys recommend, do you think i should install XP, or keep windows 7?

I'd say keep Windows 7. I hear that microsoft is phasing out support for XP. Also, for the older games, you shouldn't have any issues and if you do, you can run them in compatibility mode.

If it can handle 7 just fine, stick with 7. The only game that didnt work for me was max payne 1. Seriously, even freaking sim tower works.

Ask yourself: how much do you really play those older games on it?

If your really desperate, i suppose you could install xp on an older partition.

You can always research the older games in question to see if they'd be able to run. Otherwise, the complaints levied against Vista generally don't apply to 7, and you should be fine.

Go for 7. XP just doesn't cut it anymore in terms of performance.

Vista > XP ≤ 7 in my opinion.

Get 7. XP's not as optimized for today's file and RAM sizes or multiprocessors. If you're going to get more than 2 GB RAM or a dual core, 7's probably a better choice. I heard a lot of people playing old games on it too, compatibility mode isn't bad.

I have Vista because I am a silly person.

Go for 7, I've heard good things about it.
