If you can find a doom keep, take it over, and make your fortress from there.

Maybe it's just a weekend. Try again on Monday.

So... this isn't common, then? Demon's don't wait a while and then attack?

Oh god no. They immediately erupt and wtfpwn your fort.
Then additional demons spawn every now and then.

Ok, seriously the 2000+Z level Adamant spire was amazing, the similar sized spires of magma on embark were horrifying [to both players and their FPS], I was impressed reading about people colonizing what shouldn't be colonized, but this... wow. Big time. I need to see this one. brb downloading.

honestly, that was a ragequit moment.  The friggin thief just walked on past and grabbed it.  There were like 100+ floors yet to be placed.
My computer struggled to load all the demons.  Then, next frame, I check the unit list....
The last.... 4+ pages.... all demons.

Yeah, the magma thing weirded me out. Anyone got the DF-hacking mods to check beneath hell? I think it must have somehow ended up *above* the magma sea.

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.

Maybe it generated hell in place of the second cavern?
So its like
Overworld, 1st cavern, hell, 2nd cavern, 3rd cavern, magmasea/praised land.

And that no demons spawn is possibly that you have to pierce a different fun spire.
I have read on the wiki that the demons only spawn if you breach a certain spire, if you have more it could be that you hit a different one.

Possible... except isn't hell supposed to be connected to, y'know, *all* the spires? I've got dwarves wandering around in hell right now. They've started farming. I've got a still down there. shouldn't that count as having breached the others?

I used reveal and discovered that the first cavern is actually present, it merely contains very very very very few squares (try about 100 or so.)  There is no SMR except in the northeastern most embark tile.  There is only the single strand of cotton candy.(I suspect that the third cavern lies where the damp slade walls and muddy bottomless pits are.

It is clear what must be done: Build an adamantine city in hell!

Ok, SMR= semi-molten rock... any magma at all?

I disagree. See, to my way of thinking, if hell is empty, that means the demons are no longer doing their jobs- so clearly, *someone* has to.

Thus, dwarves need to build hell.

Heh, this reminds me of my embark where the magma sea was pouring into hell. The demons had all died by the time I got down there, but I sorta couldn't colonize hell because of, you know, the magma.

EDIT: And now I feel like a whore for having the last post in the top four threads :U

Magma doesn't kill demons, so they were dead for another reason.

Anyway, downloading the file now.  Let's hope it isn't so interesting I don't do my final paper :/
