If you vomit uncontrollably from being outside, you aren't a hardcore DF player, you're delusional or you need medical help. The only actual change not related to knowing how to play the game better I've seen is that I end up imagining certain things from viewing special symbols like & or #. That's about it.

Everclear bottle rockets.  That is, bottles that are rockets due to igniting everclear.
Rat damage.  That is, attempting to breed rats resulting in vermin gnawing damage.  (But they're so adorable!  *.*)
Plastic Bottle Stockpile.  It's like stone, but recycle-able.
Outdoor garden with dwarf-newbie-quality irrigation system.
Lots of discarded and abandoned mechanical experiments.  (You have any idea how hard it is to build a windmill?!  Nono, I jest.  I do DC electronic hobby projects.  Which leads to...)

I dreamt that my fortress was flooded with magma and my booze stockpiles exploded.  I dreamt this despite never having witnessed exploding booze in game (I'm convinced this is a myth/meme).  When I woke up, I realized it was a dream by recalling that my current fortress was not built around a magma pipe.
