No, but if somebody gets thrown/forced over to an open stairwell they will plummet down it until something stops them.

k only reason i was wondering i got a water container thats got twice the amount of water needed to fill my hall way and in my hall way ive got it one square wider then the rest of the hall. and in the space ive got hatch covers spose ill be replacing that with nothing and going a level down and placing floor grates instead then using flood gates instead to drown the people water will push the corpses though right?

Corpses actually will fall through an open hatch cover, though they won't if it's closed (the default state). They won't fall through grates or bars, though, nor can they be pushed through floor grates or bars. Wall grates and bars can occasionally have items pushed through; this is probably a bug, and is fairly unreliable.

ahh thank u reason i decided for hatch covers was i was hoping that they would escape the notice of building destroyers. with my luck hmm building destroyers will go straight for every builng wont they? sigh erm will building destroyers destroy buildings if they are getting pushed/drowning by water?

Building destroyers usually do go for hatches, yes. They also go for grates and bars. They'll probably at least attempt to destroy buildings if they're being watered, too, though they might not be successful if they get pushed away from the building by the flood. Of course, as mentioned, flushing traps are somewhat unreliable at pushing things around.

You could try fortifications for drainage instead of bars or grates. As constructions or part of the terrain, fortifications are totally indestructible to building destroyers. Items and creatures will be pushed by water through fortifications just like they would for grates or bars.

hmm wish i could show u what im trying but alas my last fort before i could get the system working found 3 different civs ambushing it at the same time >.<
its 4 tiles wide it goes from north to south now on the left side i have a 3 z level drop on the first level I.E the level of the entrance i had hatchs below that i had floor grates to catch corpses and items and below that was where the water would go and drain out leaving all the valubles on the grates for my dwarves to pick up now on the right side i had a trench dug from the level above down into this one full of twice the required water to drown everything in that hall with hatchs covering that as well to release the water. so i guess after hearing that this wont work will it sigh lol well back to the drawing board hmm erm anyone got any pages saved with good traps that dont melt the equipment thats dropped?

edit fail couldnt spell
