Question: Can I create unit type A which can create unit type B? It would count as replicating?
Units don't necessarily need any special ability to be taught to create things. In terms of innately being able, it'd probably count as replicating, yeah. If you wanted them to also be able to replicate themselves, it'd probably take more/better materials. How much more, I'm not sure. If you wanted A to produce B to produce A, you'd probably have to custom build both first for some reason, but then they could just replicate each other at no additional cost.

Turn 2: Good Golem, Bad Golem

Quote from: V-Norrec
Clearly the only thing to be done is to create Ice Golems, non-reproducing.  If I get an extra action or two, it will be spent gathering 1 unit of Granite and 1 unit of metal (preference for Iron).
Golems: [3] You create some rather crude and stupid ice golems.
Granite: [6] You gather up two units of granite, learning (or perhaps just getting lucky) from your previous mistake.
Iron: [1] You ruin a unit of your stone in a failed attempt to extract iron. Perhaps you didn't learn anything after all.

Quote from: Jay Kayell
Eat low-quality meat. Create one flesh golem, non-replicating. Gather more flesh.
Eat Meat: [3-1] You gobble the poor flesh, but gain no benefit. Well, it's not terrible-tasting.
Flesh Golem: [6] You create a Magnitude 2 flesh golem(s). It's big.
Flesh: [5] You gather up some truly choice meat.

Quote from: Humaan
Gather 3 Wood.
Wood: [2][6][3] You manage three units of wood, one of them highly questionable.

Quote from: HmH
Gather sand and rocks.
If there are tribes, get them to join me.
Otherwise, gather more rocks.
Sand: [6] You manage to scoop up an impressive amount of sand.
Rocks: [6][1] Your rock collection efforts are more mixed, but you do get some.

Quote from: tomas1297
Gather 3 bone again.
Bone: [4][1][5] You suffer mixed results, but the one unit of bone you do get is of unparalleled quality.

Quote from: quip
Get more mud!
Mud: [6][4][2] This attempt goes much smoother, and you get three units of mud.

Spoiler: Shuka (V-Norrec) (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Drummer (HmH) (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Hunger (Jay Kayell) (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Humaan (Humaan) (click to show/hide)

Alright, now we're back to single actions per turn. Of course, any minions you have get their own actions.

As a reminder, you're all still in your center hex. There's no particular need to move around right now, but once you start constructing buildings and doing more intensive labors, clustering everything in one space won't work as well.

Have Ice Golem gather some wood, I'll gather a unit of Iron.

Sheesh, I just can't get lucky, I get a shit-tastic golem and I ruin the stone, that I need two of.

Using the high-quality wood, create self-replicating goblin-like race. They shall need heat (and therefore, some sort of fuel) to survive.
I can decide what they need for upkeep, right?

Upkeep needn't be one specific thing. So long as they might have some use for it, it can work as upkeep. Food or entertainment are the most obvious choices, but you can get away with other things sometimes, especially if your minions have some quality or quirk associated with it (like not weathering the cold well).

Also bear in mind that upkeep isn't mandatory, though they won't breed without it. You could potentially make it mandatory in an attempt to give them some other benefit (or just to shackle them to you), however.

Make self-replicating worker humanoids out of sand. Sacrifice their combat prowess for better crafting\building abilities.

Create mud golems (non repilicating) specially designed to dig/ gather more mud.

I intend to create some sort of underground base pub so I'll need lots of diggers.

Turn 3: Minion Failure

Quote from: V-Norrec
Have Ice Golem gather some wood, I'll gather a unit of Iron.
Iron: [4] You successfully extract iron from the mountains.
Wood: [6-1] Your golems astonish you by producing a perfect unit of wood.
+1 Iron, +1 Wood+

Quote from: Humaan
Using the high-quality wood, create self-replicating goblin-like race. They shall need heat (and therefore, some sort of fuel) to survive.
[1] You produce malformed gremlin-like creatures, with a somewhat wood-like skin tone. They promptly cackle and run off, intent on disobeying you.
-2 Wood
Unit of Gremlins moves to hex northwest of you.

Quote from: HmH
Make self-replicating worker humanoids out of sand. Sacrifice their combat prowess for better crafting\building abilities.
[4][1] Your battle-hardened sandfolk rise up, ready to kill. They're fairly muscular, with somewhat brutish features and skin that really does look like they're made of sand.
-2 Sand.
Gain Sandfolk (-1 gathering, +1 battle)

Quote from: tomas1297
Create a skeleton from 2 bone, self-replicating when provided the materials.
[3] Your skeleton is weak and flimsy, but can still reproduce.
-2 Bones
Gain Skeleton- (-1 penalty to resource collection)

Quote from: quip
Create mud golems (non repilicating) specially designed to dig/ gather more mud.
[2][6] You create foot-long mudworms, which burrow around.
-1 Mud.
Plains of Eternal Toil gain useless mudworms.

Quote from: Jay Kayell
Gather more flesh, tell flesh golem to gather stone.
Flesh: [6] You harvest yet more of the bounty that is life.
Stone: [2] Your golem can't harvest any stone, despite it's immense size.
+2 Flesh

Animals (meaning failed attempts to create actual creatures) typically won't have an impact on anything, especially if they don't replicate. You can wipe them out, mess with them, attempt to harness them for some purpose, and so on.

Also, self-replicating minions take two materials to make. In the event of different qualities of the same material, I'll roll for whether the penalty/bonus applies or not. It did not in either case this time.

Put me on the waiting list.

Name: The formless one.
Appearance: A writhing, shapeless blob of tentacles, mouths, and eyes. When presenting himself to others, he prefers to take the form of a floating black humanoid shadow with glowing red eyes.
Powers: Can morph into the aforementioned shadow, eat things, create unspeakable hordes from anything imaginable, and possibly fire lasers from his eyes.
Location: The void. A swirling nexus of darkness, where creatures are able to float to move, with nebulae, stars, galaxies, comets, and planets moving in random directions in the background.
Logged
Caution: This user may or may not be a horrible evil Elder God from the deepest regions of space. He also may or may not be a lawyer.
