Dwarves a greedy bas*ards.
« on: December 03, 2010, 11:20:45 pm »

I come across a site that could not be better. Raw mountains, volcano, river with no aquifer, nothing could be better, right?...
...
But the (other) dwarves took it.

Has anyone else had a moment when they came across a great site, but it was already taken?

Yea, I like to have low number of civs, low sites, the biggest map. The way the world feels more wide and open.

I found this awesome area where a stream and a minor river collided with a major river forming a waterfall on both sides of the river, flux, mountains, adamantine (obviously), no aquifer, heavily forested, it had everything a dwarf of my mental status description could ever want!

But the goddamn elves had a retreat over it.

Sort of makes you miss the old days, when you could embark over towns, retreats and towers. It would make going from old fortress to shop in adventure mode a lot faster.

I'm pretty sure you could regen the world with the same seed, but with a different history seed

that will make the same world geologically, but with different civs at different locations, hopefully not at that site

Does Embark Anywhere let you embark over civ sites?

You'd let an elven retreat stop you? That makes the embark site even better as it lets you train siege operators.

I don't play much adventure mode, but can't you just go in and slaughter everyone and then come back in fortress mode?

My favorite embark ever was when I embarked onto a human settlement on top of an aquifer. I just moved into their little human houses and dicked around for awhile before moving on.

dwarves are greedy? they'll take a 2DB profit, while elves... 400 DB isn't enough? 1200?! what do you think I'm made of, gold? [bleep] straight I take your stuff...  :o
... Well, looks like time to mosey on out >_>
*insert elf style angry mob.

seriously, my bone and wood equipped army wont stand a chance, I barely have a leather/cloth gear industry working, and I'm sitting on a multi layer pond. should be fun times all around

honestly, that was a ragequit moment.  The friggin thief just walked on past and grabbed it.  There were like 100+ floors yet to be placed.
My computer struggled to load all the demons.  Then, next frame, I check the unit list....
The last.... 4+ pages.... all demons.

I remember in 40d I razed a large human city and made beds out of all the wood, dug a massive chamber and filled it with a thousand beds.
