Change in Fall Mechanics?

I just jumped off a cliff into a river, and landed on a fish. however, I still took considerable damage, AS DID THE FISH.

Update: the fish died as a result of its injuries. I, however, recovered. Apparently a rib jutting through an organ causes more bleeding than two shattered legs...

You'd be surprised. A past adventurer of mine once fell from a frozen waterfall and broke 'em leg bones. After passing out a few times he was able to stand up & fast travelling fixed the little bruises...then I noticed the significant speed loss. Sure he can stand but the damage was significant enough that he was almost at half speed, edited the raws to speed up healing but it's still taking a long while and has yet to recover 100% (maybe never will).

Alt-direction gives a list of all possible moves, including walking off cliffs.

It also helps if you want to train swimming. Although you'll probably drown :p

Dwarven Science: We do what we must, because, we're bored.

Every few miles, [the dwarves] stop the cart.  One of the dwarfs (sic) gets off, digs a hole down below the dirt layers, licks the bedrock, and then they know exactly where they are.  It's called GPS: Geological Piquancy Sampling.

I haven't been able to duplicate this in arena mode. Both the falling creature and the creature at the bottom are stunned, but uninjured.

that's really odd... I suppose its possible the fish may have fallen on the same turn as me and I landed on a different fish...
