As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Steal the keys... Then stab the guard to death. DO not unlock gate until guard is long dead.

The you-taking-up-his-halberd thing, you mean, not the smooshed-by-a-troll thing. You're pretty certain he didn't want that.

Zrk2:
You rush into the pile of goblins who avoided Rockman's charge, [4+1] [2+1] and swiftly cut off one of their hands!
[4] [4-1] You are struck from behind [4] [1-1] and the side, catching a spear in the upper back!
As you are surrounded, you feel a deep calm permead your bones, and you tighten your axe grip.

Zrk2 has entered a martial trance. Bleeding
Gobbo 5 has lost left hand.

TolyK:
While the majority of the goblins are distracted by the dwarf, you sneak up for a stealth attack.
[4] You bury the head of your axe deep into one of their backs! [5] It drops its spear and starts clawing it its wound!

Gobbo 4 is unarmed, bleeding.

You fire a flurry of bolts at the lone unengaged goblin, [6] [6] hitting him [5+1] [3+1] in the head and chest!
Gobbo 2 has lost an eye, is having trouble breathing.

One of the armored goblins breaks off from Zrk2, and swings at Tolyk!
[2-2] The nimble kobold avoids the blow easily!
