As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

KaguroDraven:
You break for the potato-barricade, [1] but Head Cook blocks the way!
He strikes out with a long fork, [6] skewering you [6+1-1] in the soft flesh of your left eye!
Oh god not in the eye! You reflexively swing your axe, [6] [5+1+3] beheading him with the legendary weapon!
Cook 1 screams and tries to hide behind the Elevator mechanisms. The way forward is how unguarded.

Rikishak his lost his left eye, permanent -1 to hit. Head Cook is dead. Cook 1 is cowering, will not attack.

quip:
With the troll mostly dead, you feel relatively safe in approaching near enough to give it a good stab.
[3+1-1] He pulls away at the last moment, but you still [5-1] land a solid blow to his neck, adding another fountain of blue blood gushing out of the great beast's neck.
[1] It seems that that was the stab that made the camel bleed out, because he finally stops breathing.

Gump has regained the ability to stand.
Chifwun, Troll Chief and Hammerlord, has bled out.

HighEndNoob:
[2+1] You slowly regain consciousness, and oh dear God in Heaven what is that smell?
Oh, dead troll. That explains everything.

Hamal is conscious. Extreme pain has lessened.

oh well, chifwun has a good run.
maybe next time chifwun will be reborn as a Cheesemaker.
or an Architect. chifwun could make architecture resembling cheese.

UristMcDwarf BlastoiseWarlorf:
You wake, roused by the jangle of the guard's keys. It seems as though he's fallen asleep, and the keys are now within your reach...
It's McDwarf Urist time.

Megaman:
This group of rooms seems to have been explored to their full extent, so you trudge off in search of more things to smash.
You move through the elf's chamber, out the room with the assorted crossbow wielder's carcases, and turn right.
You find yourself in a large-ish room, predictably filled with goblins, mostly unarmored.

IronyOwl:
Outfitted in your new equipment, you follow the dwarf who follows the giant stone man.
As you exit your prison room, you come across large piles of rubble, and an elf corpse. There is a particularly shiny bow on the ground, but the group is moving and you don't want to be left behind.
You continue following, until you enter a square room, which contains six goblins.

Zrk2:
Rockman seems to know where he's going, so you follow him.
He leads you west, right into a bunch of goblins. Typical.

[5] Zrk2 is no longer feeling the effects of blood loss.

TolyK:
You stay with the group, adjusting your new armor.
The group stops at the entrance to a large room, and you realize that you've walked into a goblin ambush. Gogdamnit.
Four goblins are unarmored, and they all wield spears. Luckily, they haven't seemed to notice you behind the rest of the group.

JacenHanLovesLegos:
You follow after Zrk2 and the elf, with the kobold behind you. You come to a mid-sixed square room, filled with tables and chairs. Likely a dining room or meeting place.
Also, there are goblins. Not really surprising, considering where you are.

Figures. I'll have to snag that bow sometime...

In the meantime, go to town on those unarmored squishies.

Try to fix up bleeding/ breathing/leg before helping HighEndNoob loot Chifwun (and any other corpses nearby?).
