Instead of a pit trap, "Wind" should be a drawbridge launcher.
Too elven. Build a 200Z tall tower to drop/launch them into the Heart trap bloodbath instead, so they can feel the wind as they fall to their immenent demise. Bonus if you instal windows to watch it happen.

Obviously Heart traps should be a maze filled with alligators or dragons or some other such nasty beast.

Well Heart is only lame because we can't make a proper trap that would utilise as far as I know. I see the DF version of heart being blood.

Well, in that show, Heart was used to communicate with animals so...

Angry McGoblin is walking through the hallway
Urist McLeverpull Pulls a lever
Cage containing 9001 kittens opens up

There's your heart trap.

Heart trap can be a cat-stampede. The cute warm fuzziness will overwhelm the invaders.

Nuts. Already beaten to it.

Wind traps can be either falling into a room full of moving windmills (don't let Morbo hunt me down; Plus, points for Dune reference please) or a bridgeapult. Beaten to the bridgeapult as well. Nuts. But if only windmills can chop. Oh, wait, we can always use crossbow traps.

But what happens if Goblin Quixote shows up at your fortress?

Heart should be a room full of caged monkeys.

I always thought heart would be your caged hydra, because they have seven hearts.

So how would you utilize them all at once?  I can get falling trap that ends in magma/water, which covers two of them.  But really, adding any more redundant, and cave in traps in particular are hard to reset....

"earth" isnt a cave-in trap, its being incased in obsidian.  makes it easier to get all four in one.

not sure about this "heart" business, when did that become an element?  alternately, you can try the 5 oriental elements which might be more of a challenge.

Metal will be easy. Wood too, to a less fun extent.

If by less fun you mean, pit trap with spear traps using wooden training spears, set on a lever that a dwarf repeatedly pulls. goblins fall in, and eventually get speared through the throat.

See, not even nearly as fun as using iron spears on a goblin repeater.

Why not make a berserk elf trap for wood?

Well, Magma is superheated rock, so it's earth + fire really, so here's a way to get all 4:

Pressurized water sends enemies into a pit of magma.

I have a fire trap and an ice trap.

The fire one is where I used 384 pumps, 4 on each of 94 levels, and 4000+ power to make a volcano in the middle of the map erupt. The map floods in no time at all.

A detailed explanation of it's workings.
A map from which the above image was created.

The ice trap is my orcsicle maker. It relies on how outdoor water freezes solid in cold biomes. An open top corridor traps a party of foes. The room then floods with water heated from bellow by magma. Once the magma is no longer in the room bellow the water freezes solid. Reapplying magma melts the ice and pumps remove the water.

Video of trap getting it's name.
An in depth explanation of the Orcsicle makers workings and a refined design.
