Traps of the Four Elements
« on: December 03, 2010, 06:12:44 am »

Working on something, I had a strange epiphany. In a fortress you can make a trap that matches each of the four classical European elements.

Fire = Magma
Water = Well...Water
Wind = Falling Trap
Earth = Cave-in Trap

I realize this isn't actually rocket science ^_^;; But I thought it was neat when the idea struck me. What does everyone think about this? Maybe make a series of traps that utilize the four elements...or even better, a super trap that uses all four at once.

Make them fall into an pit where obsidian blocks cave-in on them.

Well Heart is only lame because we can't make a proper trap that would utilise as far as I know. I see the DF version of heart being blood.

I actually had the same idea a while ago! Though I'm still a newbie when it comes to designing stuff, so most of my element traps would just be Fun ways for my dwarves to die. I was thinking of having crossbow dwarves for wind though, since, you know, the bolts are carried through the air. And spiked ball weapon traps for earth. And for Heart, I was gonna find the cutest war-trainable animal and let them loose on gobbos, probably modding in war-rabbits and go Holy Grail on them.

Stabbing weapon trap or spike trap. Utilize (and pierce) hearts by design.
If you want heart (or blood) to be the killing object, well, you have to get lucky with a toxic FB.

Just need the right kind of FB syndrome, right?

For the blood, you can mod in some cheap pet with extremely toxic blood, pit them from a tower so their blood splatters everywhere
(BONUS: Do it with cats)

For love, just make a kitten swarm, the intruders would follow them into a falling bit, where there is magma at the bottom. Then water drops onto them and turns them into obsidian.

Hopefully the kittens fall in too.

An alternate 5th element is "spirit" - ghosts.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

This is a great idea, and you should make a fortress for the "Fill Up the World" project in community games.

If you don't, it may get stolen.

!!Elves!! would actually be kinda cool as a civ symbol.  !!Clowns!!, however, you get the impression they're on fire of their own free, malicious, evil, will.

Also, much scarier if literally clowns.

Serrated disk traps, chopping up the "heart" (Read: Internal Organs) of any creature.

Blood needs to be a full on liquid.  If I can drown elves in water I should by logic be able to drown them in blood.  We get pools but I want 7/7.

Also, Bloodcannon.

So how would you utilize them all at once?  I can get falling trap that ends in magma/water, which covers two of them.  But really, adding any more redundant, and cave in traps in particular are hard to reset....

Instead of a pit trap, "Wind" should be a drawbridge launcher.
