Lost traders inside the fortress. Caught in the act.
« on: December 01, 2006, 03:04:00 pm »

I finally figured out how those stupid traders are getting lost inside some of my forts. It's the kobold thieves fault.

Since the trade depot is directly in the path from othe utside edge to inside my fort the kobolds have to pass through it to get in. If there's a caravan, they get caught by it. This isn't dangerous to anyone (at least nobody important) but it does scare the traders if they are the ones who discover the kobold. Unfortunately those idiots run into my fortress, sometimes getting lost.

It seems to be more predicated on the distance the kobold moves with/past them and the complexity of the fortress defense tunnels. A relatively direct path with some dead-ends in your outer area causes less confusion than say, a maze of noble rooms and a farm/flood area.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure this is what is happening when caravans start getting lost in my forts because I just watched a trader and a mule "bolt" from the depot after turning up a kobold.

That would certainly fit the scenario under which the human traders at one of my fortresses got lost in my farm area.

Okay, I can see if this can unhinge them from their responsibilities.  Possibly with the polar bear placement tool, though that might be overdoing it...

Polar bear placement tool... Fun. I almost want one now.

Anyways, the "bolt" pretty slowly.
