Oh, okay.  This is of the "floating on my back, gasping like I'm about to die" variety.

I'm just shocked at how many people never learned how to swim. I remember that the question came up in one of my classes somehow, and more than half of the people claimed to have no swimming ability whatsoever. These are perfectly healthy high school students, mind you, and more than 50% of them would drown if thrown into ten feet of water.
Wait what really?

Maybe it is because if we live in the state of ten thousand lakes, but around here, if you can not swim there is something wrong with you.
NC isn't exactly a desert state either, yet all these people have no swiming knowlage. In fact, boating accidents kill more people than planes and cars every year combined, partly due to people getting drunk and falling in the water, and partly due to people who can't swim willingly going out on boats without lifejackets. Yeah.

I saw a kid do a double backflip off a diving board and then start drowning because he didn't know how to swim. Hydrophobia I can understand, but I'm not sure why some people can't even float.

Thats crazy.

We have swimming class in middle school here.

Everyone can swim at that point though so it is just to learn how to swim like a real swimmer.

MSH: You answered te second part pretty well with the first.

Yeah, technically just holding your breath should make you float a little better, like your own presonal swim bladdar. Even easier in saltier water, especially the Dead Sea.

I've heard that, should you saturate pure water with starch, you can actually run across it. I've never seen it done, but it's got to look crazy if it's true. From what I've heard, that's the least solid material you can move across without sinking.

Seattle area = coast = why yes, yes I can.

Srsly guys, even if you can't swim, the basics of "not drowning" are just wiggle vaguely upright, kick your legs, and wave your arms to your sides.  That's it.  It's like going to a rave.

Not a troll, not some basement-dwelling neckbeard, but indeed a hateful, rude little person. On the internet.
I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!
