There's something terribly wrong with the bottom of mag
« on: December 09, 2007, 03:38:00 am »

So I'm scouting for magma in the latest version using reveal.exe, and I actually find a magma lake... only... there's no bottom. It's clearly only a magma lake, as there's rock below it, but instead of there being a cavern floor eventually it just says "open space" on the lowest level with solid rock on the level below...

This creates an interesting issue where all the lava falls through that open space, presumably to another dimension or something, and all the magma critters fall, stunned, into a floor of illogic...

Well, that's what happened when I reveal.exe'd it. When I came back and just mined  down into it, it looked to have drained halfway or something... The lava wasn't falling through the "open space" at the bottom, but the top few layers were empty.

I imagine this is something to do with the spiffy obsidian lining magma features now have... but that's just a total guess.

Are you sure reveal.exe even works properly with the newest version?

Yes, like I said the issue of no bottom still remains when simply digging into a magma lake.

Photographic evidence:

No reveal.exe used at all.

Yeah, it was probably the liner code.  I had a feeling that something was screwed up when I made the pools use it, but then I shook it off.  I guess that was a bad idea.

I've had chasms in form of magma pipes for a while now. I thought it's perfecly normal though, I've had only the usual batmen and ironmen in those. Once there was a full magma pipe beside an empty one, too.

Thats a pit type of chasm, not an empty lava chamber, so its not a bug, as it was made that way. I have found those too. You can tell from the chasm creatures in it, that the pit never had lava in it. If it was an empty lava pit, from a bug, then you would find either nothing, or lava creatures without lava.

But logically, such a thing could be left from a lava vent, after the lava recedes, after hundreds, or millions, of years. And chasm creatures would naturally take over such a space if they found it. So it fits well in the game.

Read the caption: "You have found a Magma Pool."  All's not right.

You mustn't be the most observant fellow, huh? The magma creatures in the empty hole are a dead giveaway.
