You just had posts deleted, and you're seriously continuing to pull this stuff?

I think the main hate for it stems from where people latch onto it, while having no actual understanding or interest in the culture they're siphoning off of. They then proceed to act like tools, and reap the benefits of being tools. The people who don't care for these shenanigans feel rather put off.

It's like having some some skinny, beardless hipster with a large part in his hair, wearing a shirt that depicts a "Dorf and Elephant" walk up to you, and say "Yo bro, I'm totally dwarf.

TBH, I've never played DF.

On the other hand, I don't pretend to be "dwarf," either.

Well, I'm clearly a nerd/ geek, but pretty much everyone else at my school is too.  Heck, about a quarter of the people came in dressed up in order to go and see Harry Potter on the first day it came out after school.  Geeks don't have to be social outcasts, depending on the context they're in.

...Honest question: How exactly did you get here then?  You don't strike me as the Liberal Crime Squad type either, but I guess it wouldn't be that surprising.

Ex kept on trying to convert me, and in the end managed to get me to sign up for some mafia games to help fix my atrocious social skills.  I migrated out of the subforum when a guy in one of the games said he didn't believe me, and thought that anyone who was trying to learn how to socialize would've entrenched themselves in GD and Life Advice.

So... no, I've never played a Tarn Adams game.  Just a lot of Mafia.

In that case, I recommend you try out Liberal Crime Squad.  Tarn hasn't actually touched it since 2004, but Jon Fox's continuing version (until a year ago anyway) was quite fun and cathartic for meeting out violent retribution on yokels by well-armed intelligentsia.  You can even use swords.

Since when are geeks cool? I go to a university filled with Scientists and Engineers, and they're not able to infiltrate mainstream society at all. I'm considered an ultra-charismatic ladies man among some of them because I can maintain eye contact with women and greet new people.

I hate the fact that I something I view as "my culture" has been essentially stolen, merchandised and raped by others.

Be thankful you're not Hawaiian or Native American then (assuming you're not...)

Also be thankful you aren't American, having your culture abused by basically everyone else who isn't you in the world.

But no, I don't think any of us care. It's pretty hard to bastardize Ronald McDonald.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
