In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

and further that Wizards just invented a spell that incinerates anything that causes them to give a shit as an Immediate action, and shortly afterward invented an anti-constipation spell.

No hypocrisy in that either!

"[D&D] was never meant to be taken seriously. AD&D is done in the same mold. It is not serious. It simulates absolutely nothing. It does not pretend to offer any realism. Games are for fun, and AD&D is a game. It certainly provides a vehicle which can be captivating, and a pastime in which one can easily become immersed, but is nonetheless only a game." - Gary Gygax, Dragon Magazine (June,1979)

As a real nerd, I don't really care. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all. You should be pleased. And if you were a real geek, you wouldn't care about the fact that the geek/nerd stereotype has changed. Why are you complaining that the stereotype now makes you seem more attractive?  It is stupid, but so what? Most stereotypes are.

Why are you complaining that the stereotype now makes you seem more attractive?

Because it's geeky men, not geeky women... ?  And the stereotype is that geeky women are ugly, completely undesirable, and will only be dated by geeky men who are, oh wait, suddenly enjoying a larger dating pool.

Pfffff.

Far from true. The attractiveness stereotype affects geek women equally, if not more so.

... Can you actually name an attractive geek female in any work?  I can't.

This isn't meant as combativeness, by the way.  I'm honestly wondering.

It's all based on perceived attractiveness and the economics of such, if not love ;) anyhow.

And Vector, the current rage is apparently "geeky girls with a certain level of attractiveness willing to put up with geeky guy's bullshit".  ::)

Eeeexactly >_>

Hah.

I'm not saying I'm worried about my own prospects.  I'm just bringing up another reason why one might be annoyed, especially because I only recently realized that the representation was kind of unequal.

I would have extreme difficulty dating a non geeky woman.  Whats the point of dating someone who isn't going to understand you on a substantive level?
