It's not about self-hating Asians, but mainly the portrayal of Asians among the public, particularly here in America.

The fact that everyone jumped to "self-hating asian nerd" stereotype instead is also a reason why I pointed it out in the first place.

Yes, those who go "I am so nerdy, it is so awesome" annoy me.  That said, if more guys/gals walked around in old sweaters and understated dress, I'd be a happy camper.  I'll just be waiting for the day when dressing like a mathematician is popularized in mass media . . . "No, no!  Those colors don't clash nearly enough.  And is this a fresh shirt?  Didn't you change it just yesterday?  Don't tell me you've been showering..."

Seriously, it would make life a lot easier.  Probably also more environmentally friendly, though that depends on who's sharing your local environment.

On the other hand, the "I'm so glad I'm not a nerd!" folks annoy me too.  Like the ones who go "I'm too pretty to do math."  It seems like an unnecessarily hierarchical paradigm, where group identity becomes more important than personal identity.

For what it's worth, I don't know that I consider myself a nerd.  I'm just me, who isn't much better or worse than anyone else.

Yeah but hollywood geeks are just shallow.

I mean why WOULDN'T someone who bends space and time in their free time, who builds sentient robots, A great personality except shy, and who is often actually hot but wears dorky clothing be cool?

Just take the Hollywood Geek and really just take out their possitive traits and analyse them closely. Honestly they don't sound like people who would reasonably be unpopular. The Biggest Friendliest Geek at my old highschool was Mr. Popularity. why? Because he was attractive, nice, and smart.

The reason why real life geeks arn't cool is because
1) Their knowledge and skills are specific esoteric and uncool
2) Their social skills are legitimately horrible... they arn't simply shy (Yes I realise I am blanketing)
3) They are unattractive

Wizards are fully capable of giving a shit, it's just that if you do something they give a shit about they'll vaporize you.  It's not that they don't give shits, it's that everyone is doing everything they can to prevent the wizard from giving a shit, out of fear.
