By the time I finish lawschool (3 years from now) I expect DF to be close to halfway done, with the speed things are going now.

Don't be so sure.  I thought the same thing as a 1L, and I'm not sure we're actually any closer to 1.0 now than we were then.  I mean, there's been a ton of progress, but I imagine the finish line is moving faster than the runner.

P.S.  Where you at?  I'll graduate from U Illinois this year.

Maybe the code is Toady - The regular updates and so on are just him running a world gen that will encompass everything ever, and we are merely given the bits of the program he is finished with!

I think Df will never be done. Its the Planepacket of Computergames so toady will add stuff even after version 1, version 1 with magics and version 1 with magics and quantumphysics.  Maybe toady is the Buddha of computers and storytelling - then we get a century's of continuous DF programming.

But for a less serious note: Df will be done on the same date as Unicorn meat is freely available in germany.
