Wires!

So small am I - Maybe not small like short, but wires are not large, by any means.
You may not know me - They are often hidden behind walls or under rugs, and indeed only a few people know how to work with them.
In every room I sleep - Basically every room nowadays has them.
Waking up at need - They don't become "live" wires until you need to use them for, say, lighting.
beneath your notice - We take them for granted since we use them so often.
Though I serve you - We use them to power our stuff!

I'd say "light" or "lightbulb".

So small am I - Lightbulbs are small.
You may not know me - This one is difficult, and is the only source of doubt.  Perhaps it implies that people don't usually think about lightbulbs (until they're blown?).
In every room I sleep - Most rooms now have lights.  As for "sleep", it's good practice to leave lights off when you're not in a room...
Waking up at need - ... And it's also good good practice to turn lights on when you need to see!
beneath your notice - As with the second line, this doesn't quite work.  Perhaps we consider the switch more than the light itself?
Though I serve you - As with the fourth line.

It's either this, under-floor heating, or some kind of vermin/creature which performs a useful task which we don't usually consider.

Water pipes.  Generally the same reasons - small, underneath the floor thus unnoticed, only operational when in use, and "sleeping" for the rest of the time.

Atoms, then. They are on the small side, people don't think of them on a day-to-day basis, in every room, sleep/wake is stable/not, and serve us, well, quite a bit.
